To compare the serum level of tissue polypeptide antigen (TPA) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in women with breast cancer at various stages of the disease and to consider the usefulness of these tumor markers in evaluating the response to chemotherapy. ⋯ Serum level of TPA and IL-6 discriminates between localized and metastatic breast cancer and their levels are good indicators of disease progression, TPA and IL-6 levels have a good predictive value for response to chemotherapy. The combination of the two tumor markers will increase the specificity for detecting breast cancer up to 96.7%.

A 26-year-old girl was admitted to the Neurological Department of The First Teaching Hospital of Jilin University with complaints of rapidly deteriorating speech clumsiness for 18 days. Five Days before her attack she had undergone intramuscular pituitrin therapy on account of recurrent haemoptysis. ⋯ The abnormal signals in bilateral hemisphere almost disappeared after 7 days of cerebral circulation ameliorating and serum electrolyte turbulence correcting therapy, whereas the symmetric abnormal signals in bilateral caudate nucleus and putamen still existed. A diagnosis of delayed encephalopathy was made and we presume the encephalopathy was associated with pituitrin therapy.

This study aimed to investigate the main points of preventing anastomotic fistula formation after low-position Dixon operation. ⋯ Ensuring enough blood supply for the anastomotic bowel on the two sides, eliminating tension and accurate anastomosis at the anastomosis site could be effective measures to prevent anastomotic fistula in the low position anus preserving surgery of colorectal cancer.

The coronary slow flow phenomenon (CSFP) is a coronary artery disease with a benign course, but its pathological mechanisms are not yet fully understood. The purpose of this controlled study was to investigate the cellular content of blood in patients diagnosed with CSFP and the relationship of this with coronary flow rates. ⋯ Significant changes have been observed in the cellular composition of blood in patients diagnosed with CSFP as compared to the patients with normal coronary blood flow. The increases in hematocrit levels and in the eosinophil and basophil counts may have direct or indirect effects on the rate of coronary blood flow.
