Knowledge About Immunosuppressant Medication and Its Correlates in a German Kidney Transplant Population - Results of a KTx360° Substudy.
After organ transplantation, adherence to immunosuppressive medication (ISM) is crucial to prevent organ rejection. To enable adherence, patients need to be well informed about the different aspects associated with their ISM. However, literature suggests that knowledge regarding ISM is often inadequate. ⋯ Taking into account that the patients after KTx can be expected to answer all questions correctly as they aim at basic knowledge, an average result of 70.9% corresponds to a moderate knowledge level. Consequently, the current educational approaches do not seem to be sufficient to inform all patients adequately. Further research is necessary on how to improve health knowledge in the long term.

Development of a Culturally Tailored Motivational Interviewing-Based Intervention to Improve Medication Adherence in South Asian Patients.
South Asians (SAs) are among the fastest growing ethnic population in Western countries and have a higher risk of cardiovascular diseases relative to the general population. SAs living in Canada also have poorer adherence to medical regimens for treating cardiovascular disease, relative to other ethnic groups. Motivational interviewing (MI) maybe effective in improving health-related behaviour change in patients; however, the research is nascent on the effectiveness of MI in SAs and may also require cultural adaptation. ⋯ This is the first culturally tailored MI-based intervention manual that has been developed with the aim of improving medication adherence in hypertensive SA patients and that includes direct feedback from SA community members. Use of this manual may improve the accessibility and adoption of MI-based practices in improving health behaviours in SAs living in Canada as well as encourage further research studies and clinical trials with SA patients.

Self-Report for Measuring and Predicting Medication Adherence: Experts' Experience in Predicting Adherence in Stable Psychiatric Outpatients and in Pharmacokinetics.
Poor adherence to appropriately prescribed medication is a global challenge for psychiatrists. ⋯ Future studies to predict adherence should include the inpatient setting and explore insight. Studying the pharmacokinetics associated with non-adherence in each psychiatric drug is a major challenge. Medication adherence is a complex and dynamic process changing over time in the same patient. Personalizing adherence using psychological or pharmacological variables are in their initial stages.

Experience of Polish Patients with Obesity in Contacts with Medical Professionals.
Discrimination and stigmatization of patients with obesity are a commonly occurring social problem. The purpose of our research was to analyze the scale of the experience including medical staff's improper behaviours towards patients with obesity in Poland. ⋯ There is an urgent need for developing national strategies connected with care for individuals with higher body weight. Introducing dedicated solutions in this field may contribute to increasing the quality of health care and reducing stigmatizing behaviours.

Patients' Perceptions and Preferences Regarding Two Different Forms of Methotrexate Autoinjectors for Moderate to Severe Rheumatoid Arthritis: A European Crossover Survey.
Treatment adherence is crucial in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The device used by the patients for self-injections may influence adherence to methotrexate (MTX) treatment. A MTX-autoinjector has been recently marketed in Europe. This crossover survey compared this MTX-autoinjector (MTX-autoinjector A) and an already existing MTX-autoinjector (MTX-autoinjector B) from the patients' perspective. ⋯ Even though deserving further studying, these findings are expected to guide clinicians when prescribing or renewing prescription of MTX-autoinjector, in particular in poor or non-compliant patients. In a context of growing interest in shared decision-making, the objective would be to choose with each patient the best suited MTX-autoinjector, and ultimately, to obtain a better treatment adherence.
