[Histopathological characteristics and coexpression of p53 and p16(INK4a) proteins in renal cancer].
Renal carcinoma represents histologically heterogeneous group of malignant tumors, with various clinical aggressiveness. The frequency of p53 mutation in primal renal carcinoma is rare, although there are information about its heterogeneous accumulation. The loss of protein p16 expression in primal renal carcinoma is detected in 20-30% of the cases. The aim of this paper was to determine frequency of mutated protein p53 and expression of protein p16(INK4a) in renal carcinoma, to analyze their correlative relation and relation with the examined clinicopathological parameters. ⋯ A mutated form of protein p53 exists in 75% of the cases with the renal carcinoma and 66.6% of then have higher histological gradus of tumor and higher stadium of tumor disease at the same time. Coexpression of mutated protein p53 and protein p16(INK4a) in renal carcinoma is not statistically significant and it is not in correlation with clinicopathological parameters. Immunohistochemical analysis of mutated protein p53 in renal carcinoma can have predictive significance.

Reduced systemic antioxidant defence is considerd to play an important mediating role in pathogenesis of diabetic neuropathy. The aim of this study was to evaluate if the total antioxidant blood capacity (TAC) is reduced in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) and diabetic distal symmetrical polyneuropathy (DDSP) and to correlate this antioxidant capacity with the degree of peripheral nerve dysfunction. ⋯ Total antioxidant blood capacity is reduced in patients with DDSP, but it does not correlate with blood sugar level, with the duration of DM or with the degree of functional nerve damage. These results show a reduced systemic antioxidant defence in patients with type 2 DM and DDSP. However, it is still unclear to what extent the oxidative stress is a contributing factor or leading cause of diabetic neuropathy, suggesting that further studies are necessary.

Low back pain is one of the most common painful conditions in the modern age. Therefore, it is very important to establish the most effective protocol for the treatment of this condition. The aim of this study was to find out if fluoroscopically, guided epidural procaine-corticosteroid injection is effective in the treatment of degenerative chronic low back pain. ⋯ In the treatment of degenerative chronic low back pain, not responding to conservative therapy with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, epidural procaine-corticosteroid injection have a satisfactory short-term as well as a long-term analgesic effect.

Oxygen therapy is a necessary therapeutic method in treatment of severe chronic respiratory failure (CRF), especially in phases of acute worsening. Risks which are to be taken into consideration during this therapy are: unpredictable increase of carbon dioxide in blood, carbonarcosis, respiratory acidosis and coma. The aim of this study was to show the influence of oxygen therapy on changes of arterial blood carbon dioxide partial pressure. ⋯ Controlled oxygen therapy in patients with severe respiratory failure greately reduces the risk of unwanted increase of PaCO2, but does not exclude it completely. The initial values of PaO2 and PaCO2 are not reliable parameters which could predict the response to oxygen therapy.

Injuries of the retrohepatic inferior vena cava, and the liver have mortality rate up to 71-78%. We presented a patient with combined injury of the retrohepatic inferior vena cava, liver, craniocerebral and thoracic traumas, inflicted in a traffic accident. ⋯ Combined injuries of the inferior vena cava and the liver befall into the most complex vascular traumas, thus representing a challenge for any complete medical team to manage them. The patient presented in our study was urgently transported to the hospital, immediately operated on applying modern doctrines of anesthesiology, transfusiology and vascular surgery that, all together, resulted into favorable treatment outcome with no distant complications.
