Abuse history and chronic pain in women: II. A multivariate analysis of abuse and psychological morbidity.
To assess the potential role of childhood and adulthood physical and sexual abuse and complaints of chronic pain in accounting for psychiatric symptomatology in adult women. ⋯ The relation observed between childhood sexual abuse and the outcomes of depression, anxiety, and somatization in women may be a function of its association with other forms of abuse, particularly childhood physical abuse. Further investigation is clearly needed of the nature of the relations between the various categories of abuse and psychological morbidity.

Meta AnalysisEffect of epidural analgesia for labor on the cesarean delivery rate.
To use meta-analysis to evaluate the effect of epidural analgesia on the cesarean delivery rate. ⋯ The results of this meta-analysis strongly support an increase in cesarean delivery associated with epidural analgesia. Further research should evaluate the balance between analgesia associated with the use of epidurals, and postpartum morbidity and costs associated with cesarean deliveries.

The relation between magnesium sulfate therapy and fetal heart rate variability.
To determine the relation between magnesium sulfate therapy and fetal heart rate (FHR) variability. ⋯ Although magnesium sulfate therapy was associated with an objectively measured, statistically significant decrease in short-term variability, the decrease was not clinically significant; furthermore, it was not associated with a decrease in long-term variability or in the number of accelerations measured.
