The influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on traumatic brain injuries in Tyrol: experiences from a state under lockdown.
In February 2020, the federal state of Tyrol in Austria has become one of the epicenters of the COVID-19 pandemic. Tyrol is known for numerous skiing areas. Thus, winter sport resorts became a starting point for COVID-19 infections spreading towards the rest of the state, Austria and other countries, leading to a mandatory quarantine for almost a million people, who were placed under a curfew and restrictions in daily life. Additionally, all ski resorts and hotels were closed. We aimed to analyze the influence of the COVID-19 quarantine on traumatic brain injury (TBI) cases in Tyrol. ⋯ TBI remained an important contributor to the neurosurgical workflow during the COVID-19 pandemic. Strategies to ensure neurosurgical care also under pandemic-induced lockdown are important.

Historical ArticleWar trauma in Homer's Iliad: a trauma registry perspective.
Homer's Iliad reports detailed descriptions of war traumas, with precise anatomical references, so that the Iliad can be considered the first trauma registry. We aimed to analyse the Iliad from the perspective of a modern trauma registry: that is, to find historical and local prognostic factors through the epidemiological study of the reported traumas. ⋯ Homer's Iliad gives us an interesting insight into war traumas during the siege of Troy. The reported higher mortality within the Trojan army can be explained not only by poetic reasons but also by different military skills.

Comprehensive treatment algorithm for atlanto-axial rotatory fixation (AARF) in children.

Analysis of cervical spine immobilization during patient transport in emergency medical services.
It remains controversial how to immobilize the cervical spine (CS) in trauma patients. Therefore, we analyzed different CS immobilization techniques during prehospital patient transport. ⋯ We suggest an immobilization procedure customized to the individual situation. A spine board should be used whenever spinal motion restriction is indicated and the utilization is possible. In some cases, CS immobilization by a vacuum mattress with CC and head blocks could be more beneficial. In an unstable status of the patient, minimal immobilization may be performed using an ambulance cot, pillow, CC and tape to minimize time on scene caused by immobilization.

Treatment of typical trampoline fracture of the proximal tibia in children: results of minimum 1 year follow-up.
To evaluate the results of trampoline fracture of the proximal tibia treated with either external fixator or conservative management at a minimum 1-year follow-up. ⋯ Jumping with companion with a large difference in body weight, the first experience of jumping on trampoline and state of extension of knee at the time of injury was revealed to be risk factors for trampoline fractures. During a follow-up period of 1 year or longer, it was concluded that valgus deformity of lower extremity or leg length discrepancy were not noticeable.
