There is no predictive tool for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with acute kidney injury (AKI). Our study aimed to establish an effective nomogram model for predicting mortality in T2DM patients with AKI. ⋯ The nomogram model accurately predicted 90-day mortality in T2DM patients with AKI. It may provide assistance for clinical decision-making and treatment, thereby reducing the medical burden.

Compound lidocaine/prilocaine cream combined with tetracaine prevents cough caused by extubation after general anaesthesia: a randomised controlled trial.
Coughing caused by tracheal extubation is common following general anaesthesia. Heavy aerosol production by coughing during recovery from general anaesthesia in patients with respiratory infections (especially COVID-19) may be one of the highest risk factors for infection in healthcare workers. The application of local anaesthetics to the endotracheal tube is an effective method to reduce coughing. The most commonly used anaesthetics are compound lidocaine/prilocaine cream and tetracaine spray. However, coughing still occurs when the two anaesthetics are used alone. We speculated that the application of compound lidocaine/prilocaine combined with tetracaine spray would better prevent coughing caused by tracheal extubation. ⋯ Compound lidocaine/prilocaine cream combined with tetracaine may be a more effective approach for preventing coughing and stabilising circulation during extubation following general anaesthesia. This may play an important role in preventing medical staff from contracting respiratory infectious diseases.

Comparison of the anesthesia effect of ultrasound-guided middle and low interscalene brachial plexus block: a randomized, controlled, non-inferiority trial.
Ultrasound-guided low interscalene brachial plexus block (LISB) can provide satisfactory anesthesia for surgery at or below the elbow. However, the anesthesia effect of ultrasound-guided middle interscalene brachial plexus block (MISB) has not been fully investigated. We hypothesized that MISB provides a non-inferior anesthesia effect to LISB for surgery at or below the elbow. ⋯ MISB provides a non-inferior anesthesia effect to LISB for surgery at or below the elbow.

Soluble triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (sTREM2) concentration is increased in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in early symptomatic phase of Alzheimer's disease (AD). This study investigated whether CSF sTREM2 has a relationship with early cognitive dysfunction following surgery in cardiac surgery patients. ⋯ This study indicates that anesthesia and surgery-induced elevation of CSF sTREM2 is associated with an increased risk of early cognitive dysfunction following surgery.

Effect of facemask oxygenation with and without positive pressure ventilation on gastric volume during anesthesia induction in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy or partial hepatectomy: a randomized controlled trial.
Studies focusing on the relationship between gastric volume and facemask oxygenation without ventilation during apnea in anesthesia induction are scarce. This study compared the change in gastric volume during apnea in anesthesia induction using facemask ventilation and facemask oxygenation without ventilation in adults undergoing laparoscopic surgery. ⋯ During apnoea, the increase in gastric volume was milder in patients undergoing facemask oxygenation without ventilation than with positive pressure ventilation.
