Pulmonary hyalinizing granulomata are unusual, noninfectious lesions of the lung of uncertain etiology. The pathologic entity may represent a peculiar form of pulmonary immune reaction. We report the history of a 23-year-old woman who had nodular lesions in the right lung without any other abnormalities. ⋯ Remaining 3 nodules were also resected. The pulmonary hyalinizing granuloma was recognised in the histological examination. Follow-up after 12 months didn't reveal recurrence.

Case Reports[Plastic bronchitis and mucoid impaction--uncommon disease syndromes with expectoration mucus plugs].
Mucoid impaction and plastic bronchitis are relatively rare disorders caused by the formation of obstructive airway plugs. We observed from February 1999 to June 2000 seven patients with mucoid impaction and one with plastic bronchitis. In the group of mucoid impaction there were 4 patients with bronchial asthma and 3 without history of lung disease. ⋯ We administered Vancomycin with Netylmycin, acetylocysteine, oxygen therapy and humid inhalation and the patient recovered. HRCT made six months after admission revelated total withdrawal of glass-ground opacities. The pathogenesis of plastic bronchitis in this case was unclear.

Case Reports[A case of tracheal adenoid cystic carcinoma in a young woman].
A case of an adenoid cystic carcinoma of trachea is presented. A 30-year-old non-smoking woman with strong inspiratory dyspnea at rest was admitted to the Dept. of Pulmonary Diseases. At auscultation a respiratory murmur was more silent at right lung and stridor over trachea was heard. ⋯ Symptoms often mimic asthma or chronic bronchitis. Thus in every patient with chronic cough and dyspnea bronchoscopy should be made. A treatment of choice is primary resection and postoperative radiotherapy.

Clinical Trial Controlled Clinical Trial[Obstructive sleep apnea and risk factors for coronary artery disease].
Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is strongly associated with obesity, especially abdominal obesity. Obesity in turn is a well-known risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD). The aim of our study was to evaluate the relationship between OSA severity and CAD risk factors. ⋯ Results of our study suggest that OSA increases the risk of coronary artery disease by increasing plasma levels of glucose, triglyceride and insulin, independent of obesity.

Clinical Trial[Noninvasive intermittent positive pressure ventilation in treatment of chronic respiratory disease exacerbation].
Noninvasive intermittent positive pressure ventilation (NIPPV) via nasal mask became a routine method of treatment of severe exacerbations of chronic respiratory failure. The aim of the study was to apply NIPPV in patients with COPD admitted to hospital due to exacerbation of the disease who on standard treatment developed progressing respiratory acidosis (pH < 7.30). Fourteen COPD patients were treated with NIPPV. ⋯ Three patients survived and were discharged home. One patient died from septic shock. We conclude that NIPPV is an effective method to treat respiratory acidosis developing during exacerbation of severe COPD.
