Last decade brought new achievements in the melanoma research, which resulted in an important changes in the clinical management of stage III melanoma. The article summarizes recent updates with particular focus on practical aspects. ⋯ These findings led to fall of another dogma in oncology: lack of effective adjuvant therapy for stage III melanoma at acceptable toxicity. Behavioural factors and the risk of viral infection: essential aspects in the COVID-19 pandemic.
The current COVID-19 pandemic continues for over eleven months. Several nutritional and behavioural aspects have been associated with an increased inflammatory state, or oxidative stress, which could negatively affect the course of COVID-19. ⋯ This should be taken into account particularly in the areas with high prevalence of obesity and T2DM, such as the Western countries. Is treated hypertension associated with a lower one-year mortality among older residents of long-term care facilities with multimorbidity?
Long-term care facility (LTCF) residents are typically excluded from clinical trials due to multimorbidity, dementia, and frailty, so there are no clear evidence-based rules for treating arterial hypertension in this population. Moreover, the role of hypertension as mortality risk factor in LTCFs has not yet been clearly established. ⋯ One-year survival of LTCF residents with treated hypertension was significantly higher than the others. Appropriate antihypertensive therapy may be a protective factor against death in frail nursing home residents, even in short period of time.

The Polish Interventional Cardiology TAVI Survey (PICTS): 10 years of transcatheter aortic valve implantation in Poland. The landscape after the first stage of Valve for Life initiative.
Few studies assessed the development of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) in Poland since its introduction in 2008. Effects of the Valve for Life Initiative in the country have not been reported. ⋯ The survey highlighted a slow increase in the rate of TAVI adoption in Poland. We found a significant treatment gap in patients with severe aortic stenosis. Remarkable regional variations in TAVI experience exist among Polish TAVI centers. Further multinational cooperation is warranted to tackle the identified limitations in access to this life-saving procedure.
