Low back pain is one of the most commonly occurring symptomatic complaints with a lifetime prevalence of 70 %. ⋯ The presence of clinical warning signs or red flags and in particular the combination of several red flags increases the probability of a specific cause of low back pain and should be examined using radiological imaging. An uncomplicated low back pain in an otherwise healthy patient does not normally necessitate imaging.

Diagnostic imaging of complex multiple trauma remains a challenge for any department providing modern emergency radiology (ER) service. An early and comprehensive approach for ER imaging is crucial for a priority-oriented and timely therapy concept with the aim of identifying potentially life-threatening injuries early and initiating appropriate treatment. ⋯ Modern WBCT after multiple trauma is performed early, comprehensively and personalized so that WBCT improves the probability of survival by 20-25%.

Acute abdominal pain in childhood is a frequent reason for a medical consultation. The main diseases that lead to the clinical situation of acute abdomen show a significant age dependency. ⋯ The task of the pediatric radiological examination is the differential diagnostic correlation of symptoms to the respective diseases. In children ultrasound is the appropriate method of choice.

Blunt chest trauma is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Consequently, all patients should be evaluated radiologically after blunt chest trauma to allow timely and appropriate treatment. ⋯ In the acute phase of severely injured patients eFAST examinations are helpful to exclude pneumothorax, hemothorax and hemopericardium. Chest radiographs may also be used to diagnose a pneumothorax or hemothorax; however, the sensitivity is limited and CT is the diagnostic modality of choice to evaluate severely injured patients.
