To compare postoperative outcomes of hip fracture surgery in patients who were and were not taking clopidogrel at the time of surgery. ⋯ Although the small sample size precludes making a definitive conclusion, we found no evidence that prompt surgical treatment of hip fracture in patients taking clopidogrel compromises perioperative outcomes.

Effect of physical activity and sedentary behavior on serum prostate-specific antigen concentrations: results from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), 2003-2006.
To examine the association between accelerometer-derived sedentary and physical activity and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in a nationally representative sample of men in the United States. ⋯ Individuals who engage in more sedentary behavior and lower levels of light physical activity have higher PSA concentrations. Future studies are needed to better identify the potential underlying mechanisms delineating the association between sedentary and physical activity and PSA concentration.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of bisphosphonate treatment on circulating osteogenic endothelial progenitor cells in postmenopausal women.
To evaluate whether bisphosphonates modulate vascular calcification by a modification in endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) coexpressing osteoblastic surface markers and genes. ⋯ Our findings indicate that bisphosphonate treatment down-regulates the expression of osteogenic genes in EPCs and suggest a possible mechanism by which bisphosphonates may inhibit vascular calcification.

Increased incidence of cutaneous nontuberculous mycobacterial infection, 1980 to 2009: a population-based study.
To determine the incidence and clinical characteristics of cutaneous nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infection during the past 30 years and whether the predominant species have changed. ⋯ The incidence of cutaneous NTM infection increased nearly 3-fold during the study period. Rapidly growing mycobacteria were predominant during the past decade.
