To analyze the efficacy of the method for selecting the distal level of fusion in treatment of thoracic hyperkyphosis in patients with Scheuermann's disease. ⋯ A distal level of instrumentation ending at the first lordotic vertebra is not justified and causes violation of sagittal balance and development of distal junctional kyphosis. The inclusion of a sagittal stable vertebra in fusion prevents the development of this undesirable situation.

The aim of this review was to present the modern concepts of diagnostic imaging in acute stroke. Neuroimaging in acute stroke aims at diagnosing the condition as early as possible and assessing the extent of parenchymal perfusion and the intracranial vessels patency. A modern approach would involve a combination of various imaging modalities as multidetector computed tomography and high field magnetic resonance imaging. ⋯ To find brain tissue at risk diffusion- and perfusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging modalities are used. The authors present briefly the modern neuroimaging modalities used in patients with transient ischemic attack, minor stroke and venous infarction. By combining different imaging techniques in a multimodal approach we can acquire the information necessary for therapeutic planning and differentiate patients who need thrombolysis.

To suggest diagnostic combinations of symptoms for migraine and tension type headache (TTH), and for differentiation of overlapping headache (classified as either migraine or TTH) through evaluation of the diagnostic value of combinations of characteristics included in the International Headache Society diagnostic criteria for migraine and TTH in children and adolescents. ⋯ Some combinations of symptoms clarify the diagnosis of migraine and TTH. More than 50% of overlapping headache could be differentiated as TTH or MWA by the proposed combinations.

The vast majority of published papers on the efficacy of extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) have come up with rather controversial results in patients with plantar fasciitis. The AIM of the present study was to investigate the effect of radial shock wave therapy in patients with chronic proximal plantar fasciitis. ⋯ Based on the results of this study we could conclude that radial shock wave therapy is a safe non-invasive method of treatment. Our preliminary findings indicate that it could be an effective treatment of choice for patients with chronic plantar fasciitis that is recalcitrant to other conservative treatment modalities.

To study the development of children with selectively treated cytomegalovirus infection. ⋯ The prognosis in cases of cytomegalovirus infection diagnosed at three years of age and treated selectively can be similar to that in infection free 3-year-old children (if there are no cases of CMV inclusion disease).
