[Clinical, structural and functional features of paroxismal syndrome in insular and temporal lobe tumors].
To analyze the characteristics of paroxysmal syndrome in insular and temporal lobe tumors, to determine their relationship with the histological structure of tumor, to assess the effect of tumor growth nature on severity of disease. ⋯ The main group consisted of 29 patients with tumors of temporal and insular lobes. Control group of 51 patients with temporal gliomas was formed for comparative analysis. It was found that involvement of insular lobe into paroxysmal syndrome is characterized by attacks with a motor component, somatosensory paroxysms, vegetative manifestations (respiratory attacks, salivation, nausea), speech disorders and taste hallucinations. Derealization, motor arrest and déjà vu/jamis vu paroxysms were more common in patients with temporal lobe lesion. Neoplastic lesion of the insular lobe shortens the period between manifestation of paroxysms and surgical treatment. Moreover, this type of disease is characterized by higher incidence of seizures compared to isolated temporal lobe tumors.

[Clinical and neuropsychological studies of patients before and after insular glioma resection].
The study was aimed to investigate the insula function based on analysis and comparison of epileptic seizures (irritation symptoms) and cognitive impairment (memory loss) in patients with insular gliomas. ⋯ Epileptic seizures associated with insular tumors are characterized by both similarities and differences with medial-temporal seizures, which is due to the close relationships between the insula and the limbic system. The nature of taste and olfactory hallucinations associated with insular tumors reflects a significant role of the insula in the formation of 'protective behavior'. The absence of clear cognitive impairment in focal lesions of the insula restricts extended interpretation of the insula role in implementation of cognitive functions. This issue needs further investigation.

[Visual fluorescence combined with laser spectroscopy in surgery for intramedullary spinal cord tumors].
Surgical treatment of intramedullary spinal cord tumors is aimed at total resection of tumor with maximum preservation of neurological and functional status. In some cases, intramedullary tumors have unclear dissection plane or gliosis zone. This area is not a tumor and does not require resection. However, it is difficult to distinguish visually intact spinal cord tissue and tumor at the last surgical stages. Thus, we evaluated the effectiveness of fluorescence combined with laser spectroscopy in surgical treatment of intramedullary spinal cord tumors. ⋯ Visual fluorescence combined with laser spectroscopy is a perspective method for intraoperative imaging of tumor remnants and total resection of intramedullary spinal cord tumors with minimum risk of neurological impairment.

[The use of surgical neuromodulation to treat chronic pelvic pain].
Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) is a pain syndrome that is very difficult to treat. The effectiveness of CPP treatment remains low despite the use of integrated approaches. That is why it is necessary to search for new treatment approaches and methods. Surgical neuromodulation has recently been used increasingly often to treat CPP.
