Case Reports[Rare observation of hyperostotic cranial lesions in osteogenesis imperfecta].
A rare case of hyperostotic skull deformity in a patient with congenital bone defect--osteogenesis imperfecta--is described. In this case typical symptoms encountered in adults were observed: decreased body length caused by shortened extremities due to multiple pathological fractures in childhood, deformities of thorax, spine, facial bones and teeth, skull lesions with craniobasal and brainstem symptoms, bluish hue of sclera, hypoacusis etc.). In this patient non-typical abnormalities were found: visual deficit due to optic nerve atrophy caused by bilateral optic canal stenosis on the background of densitometrically proven hyperostotic skull base deformity.

During recent decades many methods of spinal cord hypothermia (SCH) were developed. Nevertheless the problem of SCH in complex urgent care of patients with complicated spinal cord injuries remains unsolved as well as problems of tactics and techniques of hypothermia. ⋯ Own observations during the procedure were used as criteria for evaluation of effectiveness. Implementation of suggested technique is expected to increase quality of surgical treatment of patients with complicated spinal cord injury, to improve surgical outcomes and to decrease rate of disability.

[Application of "Gamma-knife" radiosurgery in treatment of intracranial metastases of extracranial malignant tumors].
Treatment of intracerebral metastases is one of the key problems in neurooncology. Modern methods of combined treatment do not significantly affect terms of survival. Quality of life during the whole period of treatment depends on selected tactics. ⋯ GKSRS is minimally invasive, safe and effective method for treatment of intracerebral metastases of all main histological types of extracranial tumors. Local tumor control is observed in 88% of patients. Life expectancy prognosis depends on activity of extracranial process, initial condition of patient by the moment of treatment and initial spread of metastatic brain involvement.

Case Reports[Identification of the cochlear nerve in surgical removal of vestibular schwannomas].
Review of methods which allow intraoperative identifying and monitoring of cochlear and facial nerves in resection of vestibular schwannomas is presented. We describe a case of successful identification and functional preservation of facial and cochlear nerves in a patient with acoustic neuroma. Detailed description of neurophysiological and neurosurgical aspects of surgical technique intended to preserve auditory functions is given. According to some authors, application of intraoperative neurophysiological techniques in surgery of vestibular schwannomas allows to preserve not only anatomical but also functional integrity of neural structures as well.

Clinical Trial[Modern potentialities of minimally invasive management of chronic non-malignant pain].
In this retrospective investigation we demonstrated our results of treatment of chronic pain of nonmalignant etiology. The long-term effects of neuromodulation systems were examined in 215 patients with chronic nonmalignant pain syndromes. The mean follow-up period was 4 years. ⋯ We reported about the standards of implantation, the side effects and complications and failures of treatment. Our experience with the long-term administration of spinal opioid medications and SCS for nonmalignant pain encouraged us to use methods of neuromodulation for carefully selected patients. Good results with significant pain reduction demonstrated the consideration this kind of treatment about the conservative therapy.
