[Obstructive sleep apnea and a cardiovascular risk in patients with arterial hypertension].
To study an independent role of the obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) in patients with arterial hypertension (AH) according to the data of a retrospective observation. ⋯ Among 120 enrolled patients, 64 (53%) had OSAS. In the patients with OSAS, the baseline AHI was 50.9 +/- 23 events per hour whereas in the control group it was 8.9 +/- 5.2 per hours. Both groups were comparable in age, height, weight, body mass index, snore duration, drowsiness, and respiratory standstill during sleep, blood pressure, total cholesterol, and creatine. While analyzing OSAS, there was no change in the risk for a combined end point (all-cause death, stroke, myocardial infarction, chronic heart failure, atrial fibrillation, or intermittent claudication). Our study was retrospective, the patients were few and AH is itself an important cardiovascular risk factor which should be borne in interpreting the results of our study. We consider that the study of the independent role of OSAS should be continued within a well-designed prospective observation.

[Retrospective analysis of the efficiency of radiation studies in closed injury to the lower cervical spine (C3-C7)].
The paper presents the results of an analysis of the efficiency of radiation diagnostic techniques in 101 patients with closed injury to the lower cervical spine. The analysis was made by comparing the data of study protocols with surgical findings and pathologists' reports. The sensitivity, specificity, and toxicity of X-ray study, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are presented in bony, soft tissue, and neural structural damages. The basic advantages in the description of injuries to the lower cervical spine are detectable during X-ray study, CT, and MRI.

[Epidural pharmacotherapy in patients with dystrophic diseases of the lumbosacral spine].
The results of treatment were analyzed in 70 patients with dystrophic diseases of the lumbosacral spine complicated by the displacement of intervertebral disks. All the examinees had a long history and a protracted exacerbation resistant to conservative therapy. Long-term local epidural pharmacotherapy (LTLEP) was used for their treatment. ⋯ Follow-up MRI or CT findings show that the pathological substrate disappears or significantly decreases in sizes in 83.4% of cases. LTLEP is safe: in the study group, there were no complications due to the manipulation itself and after treatment the patients' health status did not deteriorate owing to a therapeutic process. If conservative therapy is inefficient, it may be used as an alternative to conventional and low-invasive neurosurgical operations.
