Efficacy of the oxygenated regenerated cellulose Surgicel Nu-Knit as a hemostatic agent by coronary shunting operation was evaluated. 84 patients were included in the study. Surgicel was locally used in 32 of patients after sternotomy and during wound closure. ⋯ Surgicel Nu-Knit for the sternum bleeding permitted a good hemostatic effect without wax use. Thereby total blood loss, in spite of intraoperative coagulopathy, did not differ from blood loss amount using common hemostatic techniques.

The quantification of the acute blood loss remains to be the crucial task of the emergency aid. There is no satisfactory and practically suitable method of the blood loss measurement to present day. The original method is based on the electrolyte blood characteristics' measurement. The compact and handy device allows measure the blood loss amount within minutes, which is mostly important at preadmission stages.

31 patients with post-burn face and neck cicatricial deformities were operated on during the period of 2005-2007. Triangle and trapeziform skin-fascial flap plasty was performed in 24 patients, 7 patients were treated using vascularized tissue flap transplantation. The choice of the method was based on the author's classification of post-burn skin defects. Flap engraftment was observed in 96,8% patients.
