Review[The possibility of using tranexamic acid for the treatment of bleeding in otorhinolaryngology].
This article is focused on the analysis of the literature publications pertaining to the problem of bleeding in otorhinolaryngology. It reports the epidemiological data on the structure of bleeding and the main methods used to arrest it. Special attention is given to the possibilities of application of tranexamic acid as an effective hemostatic agent not only for systemic but also for topical administration.

[The universal audiological screening of newborn infants: achievements and challenges].
The objective of the present study was to estimate the effectiveness of universal audiological screening of newborn infants in Russia based on the results of this procedure obtained in 2011-2012 by the analysis of the activities of surdological centres in 15 regions of the country. It was shown, that the main indicators of the effectiveness of the screening are the technical equipment of maternity houses, newborn coverage at the first stage of screening, and its continuity. ⋯ The disadvantages of the current system of identification of newborn infants suffering congenital loss of hearing are discussed. The importance of the improvement of data collection methods is emphasized.

Case Reports[A rare case of thalassemia concomitant with chronic decompensated tonsillitis].
The present paper reports a rare combination of Cooley's disease (thalassemia B) and the decompensated variant of chronic tonsillitis in a 14-year old girl. The patient presented with the severe form of hypochromic anemia and degenerative changes of erythrocytes. ⋯ Hemorrhage during the surgical intervention was stopped by pressing tampons impregnated with tranexamic acid known to exert local and systemic hemostatic and antifibrinolytic action. The patient was discharged from the hospital for the further treatment of the primary disease.
