Headache is a common feature in acute cerebrovascular disease but no studies have evaluated the prevalence of specific headache types in patients with transient ischemic attacks (TIA). The purpose of the present study was to analyze all headaches within the last year and the last week before TIA and at the time of TIA. ⋯ The one year prevalence of migraine was significantly higher in TIA patients than in controls and so was the prevalence of headache within the last week before TIA and at the time of TIA. A previous headache that worsens and a new type of headache can be a warning of impending TIA.

Physiological, hematological and biochemical factors associated with high-altitude headache in young Chinese males following acute exposure at 3700 m.
High-altitude headache (HAH) is the most common sickness occurred in healthy people after rapid ascending to high altitude, and its risk factors were still not well understood. To investigate physiological, hematological and biochemical risk factors associated with high-altitude headache (HAH) after acute exposure to 3700 m, we conducted a two-stage, perspective observational study. In 72 h, total 318 young Han Chinese males ascended from sea level (altitude of 50 m) to altitude of 3700 m by train. Demographic data, physiological, hematological and biochemical parameters of all participants were collected within one week prior to the departure, and within 24 h after arrival. ⋯ We confirmed that higher HR, lower SpO2 are independent risk factors for HAH. Furthermore, we found that at both 50 m and 3700 m, lower BUN is a novel independent risk factor for HAH, providing new insights for understanding the pathological mechanisms.

Probable migraine (PM) is a subtype of migraine that is prevalent in the general population. Previous studies have shown that poor sleep quality is common among migraineurs and is associated with an exacerbation of migraine symptoms. However, information on the prevalence and clinical implication of poor sleep quality among individuals with PM is scarce. Thus, the aim of this study was to assess the prevalence and clinical impact of poor sleep quality in individuals with PM in comparison with those with migraine. ⋯ Poor sleep quality was prevalent among participants with PM. It was associated with an exacerbation of PM symptoms. Our findings suggest that proper evaluation and treatment for poor sleep quality are needed in the management of PM.

Whether the patients with migraine have an elevated mortality risk in Taiwan is unclear. ⋯ Taiwanese patients with migraine require comprehensive and universal medical care. These patients would benefit from controlling their migraines and reducing the subsequent mortality.

No study has investigated the associations of migraine with pain symptoms over a ten-year period among outpatients with major depressive disorder (MDD). This study aimed to investigate this issue. ⋯ Migraine was an important comorbidity associated with greater severities of pain symptoms during long-term follow-up. Migraine treatment should be integrated into the treatment of depression to improve pain symptoms and quality of life in the pain dimension.
