This study aimed at verifying how health professionals proceed the communication with the patient's relatives at the ICU. Data collection was carried out in a private hospital with 37 health professionals and was obtained by means of semi-structured interviews. Analysis of the content showed two major categories: aspects that make communication difficult with the family and the aspects that make communication easier with the family. Aspects that make the interaction difficult were more significant in relation to the others: information was not always well understood by the family, patient's severity, dynamics of the unit, professional's lack of knowledge about the patient's clinical evolution, some difficulties regarding the way of the professional to be and the inadequate physical space.

This study identified situations indicating medication errors or near misses by analyzing medication orders and the nursing staff's performance. It also implemented a cycle of lectures and a course on safety in medication administration for professionals at the emergency room in a hospital in the northeastern region of Brazil. ⋯ Among the non-administered medication, 26% were antibiotics and anticoagulants and 15% analgesics. The professionals participated in the implemented strategies with good attendance levels.

The tunneled epidural catheter as an administration access for opiates has been used since the beginning of 1980. Patients with chronic pain, who does not get relief with medication through other accesses are benefited with infusion of opiate associated to a local anesthetic through epidural access. However, there are still doubts on the efficacy of the method in the handling and, consequently, over the risk for infection and other complications. ⋯ Catheters were implanted in thoracic or lumbar level. No complications like epidural abscess, meningitis our epidural haematoma were observed. Patients' satisfaction related to analgesia was evident.

This study aimed to identify the correspondence of opinions between nurses and nursing staff members who work at the emergency unit regarding the leadership style performed by nurses and the style nurses must adopt considering the maturity level of nursing staff members and the care provided at the unit. Situational Leadership was adopted as a theoretical reference framework. In order to achieve these goals, instruments were elaborated and applied to 24 research participants. Results demonstrated that the leadership style nurses most frequently perform was E3 (participating), and that nurses should adopt leadership style E4 (delegating) in view of the nursing staff's level of maturity, suggesting that staff members present a high level of maturity (M4).

This study sought to identify the attitude of nursing undergraduate students concerning organ donation and their knowledge about the current law of organ donation. The last-year nursing undergraduate students from two Colleges in Goiânia (GO) were approached. 45 students answered a questionnaire. A model of content analysis and bioethical principles was used to analyze the answers. ⋯ The "Unreliability" of health professionals for removing organs is associated to the feeling of great vulnerability. There is "Non Information" concerning the legislation in force. These results allow concluding that the donation of organs among subjects cannot be configured as an autonomous action.
