Case ReportsOsteopathic manipulative treatment in the management of notalgia paresthetica.
Notalgia paresthetica is a chronic sensory neuropathy characterized by pruritus of the upper to middle back, typically below the left shoulder blade. Symptoms may include pain, hyperesthesia, paresthesia, and hyperpigmentation of the affected area. ⋯ After treatment, the patient reported immediate improvement of symptoms. A discussion of this condition based on previously published literature is also provided.

Heritability of spinal pain and consequences of spinal pain: a comprehensive genetic epidemiologic analysis using a population-based sample of 15,328 twins ages 20-71 years.
To assess the relative contribution of genetic and environmental factors to different definitions of spinal pain and consequences of spinal pain. ⋯ Heritability estimates for pain in different spinal regions are quite similar and there is a moderate to high genetic correlation between the phenotypes. This may indicate a common genetic basis for a high proportion of spinal pain.

Cervical ependymoma in a male adolescent with neck and back pain.
This case study addresses the clinical presentation, imaging manifestations, and management of an intramedullary ependymoma in an adolescent who presented for chiropractic evaluation with severe neck and back pain. The atypical manifestations of this disorder are emphasized. ⋯ Although it is a rare and slow growing neoplasm, early detection is critical for optimal postoperative functional outcome that is directly related to the preoperative functional status.
