[Anaesthesia-related Infection Prevention during Operations].
The processes of anaesthesia during operations enable surgical disciplines to perform a wide range of procedures. However, anaesthesia procedure may also represent a potential risk of infection for the surgical patient. Important hygiene measures concern the following topics: hand hygiene, surface disinfection, administration of parenteral drugs, dealing with catheters, intubation, perioperative antibiotic prophylaxis, temperature management, change intervals, OR workflow organization. The selection of hygiene measures for anaesthesia staff in the operating theatre listed in this article is presented in the sequence of the work flow, whereby certain topics such as hand hygiene naturally play an important role in all work phases.

Introduction. Indwelling medical devices such as endotracheal tubes (ETTs), urinary catheters, vascular access devices, tracheostomies and feeding tubes are often associated with hospital-acquired infections. Bacterial biofilm formed on the ETTs in intubated patients is a significant risk factor associated with ventilator-associated pneumonia. ⋯ Conclusions. Our study established an in vitro method for studying P. aeruginosa biofilm formation on the ETT surfaces. We also identified novel ETT-specific TCSs that could serve as targets to prevent biofilm formation on indwelling devices frequently used in clinical settings.

Observational StudyMortality Caused by Late-onset Sepsis in Very Low Birth Weight Infants: Risk Analysis and the Performance of Diagnostic Tools.
To assess the risk on late-onset sepsis attributed mortality in very low birth weight (VLBW) infants. Study Design: Observational study. ⋯ Low Apgar scores, NEC and prolonged intubation are independent risk factors for mortality of VLBW infants. Birth in level III-IV NICUs featuring special neonatal care, avoidance of prolonged intubation, and timely prediction of fatal sepsis using hsCRP ratio and platelets could prevent sepsis-related mortality. Key Words: Sepsis, Very low birth weight, Infant formality, Apgar score.

Introduction of the GlideScope videolaryngoscope caused a change in use of other devices for difficult airway management. ⋯ The GlideScope videolaryngoscope replaced flexible fibreoptic bronchoscopy for most patients with expected and unexpected difficult intubation. In the case of limited mouth opening, flexible fibreoptic bronchoscopy was still the first choice after the introduction of the GlideScope. The reduced use of flexible fibreoptic bronchoscopy raises concerns that residents may not be adequately trained in this essential airway management technique. GlideScope use was disproportionately greater than the reduction in the use of flexible fibreoptic bronchoscopy and other difficult intubation techniques. This may be attributed to resident teaching and use in patients with low-to-moderate suspicion of difficult intubation.

Comparison of conventional and fibreoptic-guided advance of left-sided double-lumen tube during endobronchial intubation: A randomised controlled trial.
Postoperative sore throat and airway injuries are relatively common after double-lumen tube (DLT) intubation. ⋯ The fibreoptic-guided advancement seems to reduce irritation to the airway, leading less postoperative complications.
