Our study aims to compare the clinical and epidemiological characteristics, length of stay in the ICU, and mortality rates of COVID-19 patients admitted to the ICU who are fully vaccinated, partially vaccinated, or unvaccinated. ⋯ Patients with severe SARS-CoV-2 disease who are vaccinated against COVID-19 have a lower incidence of severe ARDS and mechanical ventilation than unvaccinated patients.

Retrospective studies have demonstrated that the deep learning-based cardiac arrest risk management system (DeepCARS™) is superior to the conventional methods in predicting in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA). This prospective study aimed to investigate the predictive accuracy of the DeepCARS™ for IHCA or unplanned intensive care unit transfer (UIT) among general ward patients, compared with that of conventional methods in real-world practice. ⋯ The DeepCARS™ predicts IHCA and UIT more accurately and efficiently than conventional methods. Thus, the DeepCARS™ may be an effective screening tool for detecting clinical deterioration in real-world clinical practice. Trial registration This study was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov ( NCT04951973 ) on June 30, 2021.

Transfusing red blood cells promptly corrects anemia and improves tissue oxygenation in around 40% of patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit (ICU) after major surgical operations. This study's goal is to investigate how blood transfusions affect the mortality rates of patients after major surgery who are hospitalized in the ICU. ⋯ A higher initial ICU APACHE II score, SOFA score, and a number of blood transfusions were associated with improved survival for patients undergoing major surgical operations. Patients' death rates have increased with the increase in the frequency and variety of blood transfusions.

Except in a few retrospective studies mainly including patients under chemotherapy, information regarding the impact of immunosuppressive therapy on the prognosis of patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) for septic shock is scarce. Accordingly, the PACIFIC study aimed to asses if immunosuppressive therapy is associated with an increased mortality in patients admitted to the ICU for septic shock. ⋯ In this study, long-term immunosuppressive therapy excluding chemotherapy was not associated with significantly higher or lower ICU and 3-month mortality in patients admitted to the ICU for septic shock.

Evaluating the Utility of Portal Vein Pulsatility Index for Detecting Fluid Unresponsiveness in the Intensive Care Unit.
The primary aim of the authors' study was to evaluate the capacity of the portal vein pulsatility index (PVP) to detect fluid unresponsiveness in patients admitted to intensive care. ⋯ Although PVP has limited value as the sole indicator for fluid management decisions, it can be used as a stopping rule or combined with other diagnostic tests to improve the accuracy of fluid responsiveness assessment.
