Multicenter Study Observational StudyLong-term survival of traumatic brain injury and intra-cerebral haemorrhage patients: A multicentric observational cohort.
Mortality is often assessed during ICU stay and early after, but rarely at later stage. We aimed to compare the long-term mortality between TBI and ICH patients. ⋯ In this ICU survivor population with a prolonged follow-up, we highlight an acute risk of death after ICU stay, which seems to last longer in ICH patients. Several variables characteristic of disease severity appeared associated with long-term mortality, raising the hypothesis that the most severe patients deserve closer follow-up after ICU stay.

Cardiology department versus intensive care unit admission after successful uncomplicated transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
Most patients after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) are admitted directly to the cardiac intensive care unit (CICU) despite low complication rates. Reducing unnecessary CICU hospitalization reduces healthcare costs. This study aimed to compare the outcomes between patients admitted directly to the cardiology department (CD) and those admitted to CICU based on prespecified protocols. ⋯ Direct admission to the CD after TAVR, according to the proposed criteria, may be considered as a safe and less expensive alternative for stable patients after an uncomplicated TAVR procedure.

New Morbidities During Critical Illness and Associated Risk of ICU Readmission: Virtual Pediatric Systems Cohort, 2017-2020.
To describe change in Functional Status Scale (FSS) associated with critical illness and assess associated development of new morbidities with PICU readmission. ⋯ Development of new morbidities occurs commonly in pediatric critical illness, but we failed to find an association with greater hazard of PICU readmission. Instead, patient functional status is associated with hazard of PICU readmission.

Preferences for albumin use in adult intensive care unit patients with shock: An international survey.
Use of albumin is suggested for some patients with shock, but preferences for its use may vary among intensive care unit (ICU) physicians. ⋯ In this international survey, the reported preferences for the use of albumin in adult ICU patients with shock varied considerably among surveyed ICU physicians. The support for a future randomised trial was high.

Imbalances between hospital caseload and care resources that strained U.S. hospitals during the pandemic have persisted after the pandemic amid ongoing staff shortages. Understanding which hospital types were more resilient to pandemic overcrowding-related excess deaths may prioritize patient safety during future crises. ⋯ Intramural Research Program of the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center.
