It remains elusive how the characteristics, the course of disease, the clinical management and the outcomes of critically ill COVID-19 patients admitted to intensive care units (ICU) worldwide have changed over the course of the pandemic. ⋯ Characteristics and disease course of critically ill COVID-19 patients have continuously evolved, concomitant to the clinical management, throughout the pandemic leading to a younger, less severely ill ICU population with distinctly different clinical, pulmonary and inflammatory presentations than at the onset of the pandemic.

Temperature abnormalities are recognized as a marker of human disease, and the therapeutic value of temperature is an attractive treatment target. The objective of this synthetic review is to summarize and critically appraise evidence for active temperature management in critically ill patients. ⋯ Body temperature management in critically ill patients remains an appealing therapy for several illnesses, and additional studies are needed to clarify management strategies and therapeutic pathways.

Continuous Noninvasive Blood Pressure Monitoring of Beat-By-Beat Blood Pressure and Heart Rate Using Caretaker Compared With Invasive Arterial Catheter in the Intensive Care Unit.
To examine the accuracy of noninvasively-derived peripheral arterial blood pressure (BP) by the Caretaker device (CT) against invasively measured arterial BP and the fidelity of heart rate variability by CT compared with electrocardiogram (ECG)-derived data. ⋯ This study validated the noninvasive tracking of BP using the CT device, and the pulse decomposition analysis approach is possible within the guidelines of the standard.

Intervention Codesign in the Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit to Improve Family Meetings.
Family meetings are encouraged in the pediatric cardiac intensive care unit (CICU) with the expectation of supporting parental shared decision-making (SDM). However, they often fall short of this goal. Additionally, interprofessional team and family meetings are dominated by input from physicians, under-utilizing the skillset of the full clinical team. ⋯ A codesign of an intervention with clinicians and parents in the CICU is a feasible and resulted in an intervention with broad support among clinicians in the CICU.

ReviewConservative vs. liberal fluid therapy in septic shock - protocol for secondary Bayesian analyses of the CLASSIC trial.
Clinical equipoise exists regarding intravenous (IV) fluid volumes in sepsis. The Conservative vs. Liberal Approach to fluid therapy of Septic Shock in Intensive Care (CLASSIC) trial investigates the effect of restricted vs. standard IV fluid therapy in 1554 adult intensive care unit patients with septic shock. ⋯ The outlined analyses will supplement the primary analysis of the CLASSIC trial by describing probabilities of beneficial and harmful effects and evaluating heterogeneity of treatment effects in a framework that may be easier to interpret for researchers and clinicians.
