Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyRandomised comparative trial of thermal balloon ablation and levonorgestrel intrauterine system in patients with idiopathic menorrhagia.
To compare the effectiveness of thermal balloon ablation (TBA) and levonorgestrel intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) in the management of idiopathic menorrhagia and changes in pictorial blood loss assessment chart (PBAC) scores in patients who had failed on oral medical treatment. ⋯ Both TBA and LNG-IUS achieved significant decreases in PBAC scores, with those for the LNG-IUS being significantly greater at 12 months. However, prolonged days of bleeding resulted in fewer women continuing with the LNG-IUS at two years.

Comparative StudyStillbirths and neonatal deaths in appropriate, small and large birthweight for gestational age fetuses.
To compare the risk of stillbirth and neonatal death in small-for-gestational-age (SGA), appropriate-for-gestational-age (AGA) and large-for-gestational-age (LGA) fetuses and neonates. ⋯ The risk of stillbirth per week of gestational age and neonatal death rates do not differ significantly between AGA and LGA fetuses and neonates. The SGA fetus is at significantly greater risk of both stillbirth and neonatal death, particularly with advancing gestational age.

Clinical TrialOxycodone as a component of multimodal analgesia for lactating mothers after Caesarean section: relationships between maternal plasma, breast milk and neonatal plasma levels.
Oxycodone has become popular for post-Caesarean section (CS) analgesia yet it is not currently recommended for use in breast-feeding mothers because of limited information on its excretion into breast milk. ⋯ Oxycodone is concentrated in human breast milk up to 72-h post-partum. Breastfed infants may receive > 10% of a therapeutic infant dose. However, maternal oxycodone intake up to 72-h post-CS poses only minimal risk to the breast-feeding infant as low volumes of breast milk are ingested during this period.

Maternal morbidity and mortality associated with elective Caesarean delivery at a university hospital in Nigeria.
Data about maternal outcomes of elective Caesarean section in low-income countries are limited. ⋯ Elective Caesarean delivery in this hospital is certainly accompanied by considerable maternal risks and should be offered to pregnant women with extreme caution. Efforts should be made to improve its safety by investigating and rectifying the factors responsible for the associated severe maternal complications.
