Multicenter StudySevere bronchopulmonary dysplasia - incidence and predictive factors in a prospective, multicenter study in very preterm infants with respiratory distress syndrome.
Severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) remains a major complication of prematurity and can have significant impact on long-term pulmonary sequelae and adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes. ⋯ Mechanical ventilation >7 days is the most prevalent risk factor for severe BPD. CPAP initiated in the delivery room and early surfactant are key preventive measures.

Clinical TrialAn appropriate way to predict fetal gender at first trimester: anogenital distance.
Using anogenital distance to determine fetal sex is a new method. There is only one study in the literature. We predict that it will pass through the literature as a new method that can be used in determining fetal sex especially in first trimester. ⋯ Gender can be detected with great accuracy in gestations between 11 to 13 weeks and 6 days by using AGD. CRL and gestational week (GW) were determined as nonsignificant predictors of fetal gender by AGD measurement. In order to obtain more accurate results with AGD, consideration of further studies with larger series in different races is recommended.

Case ReportsCatastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome and pregnancy. Clinical report.
We have observed the development of a catastrophic antiphospholipid syndrome (CAPS) in a pregnant woman hospitalized at 28 weeks of gestation with a severe preeclampsia. On the same day, an eclampsia attack developed, and an emergency surgical delivery was performed. On the third day, multiorgan failure developed. ⋯ CAPS is a life-threatening condition, therefore, requires an urgent treatment. Optimal treatment of CAPS is not developed. CAPS represent a general medical multidisciplinary problem.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe effect of prophylactic oral tranexamic acid plus buccal misoprostol on blood loss after vaginal delivery: a randomized controlled trial.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of prophylactic oral tranexamic acid (TA) plus buccal misoprostol on the amount of blood loss after vaginal delivery in women at low risk for post-partum hemorrhage (PPH). ⋯ In settings like rural area or home delivery in which oxytocin is not available, alternative oral TA plus buccal misoprostol may be considered as an effective line in prevention of PPH.

Decrease in the incidence of threatened preterm labor after implementation of transvaginal ultrasound cervical length universal screening.
It is unknown if universal second-trimester transvaginal ultrasound (TVU) cervical length (CL) screening in asymptomatic women with singleton gestations and no prior spontaneous preterm birth (SPTB) affects the incidence of symptoms of preterm labor (PTL) later in pregnancy. ⋯ The introduction of a universal TVU CL screening program in women with singleton gestations without a history of SPTB is associated with a reduction in the frequency of threatened PTL and admission for PTL. Key Message The introduction of a second trimester universal transvaginal ultrasound (TVU) cervical length (CL) screening program in women without a history of spontaneous preterm birth (SPTB) is associated with a reduction in the incidence of threatened preterm labor (PTL) and admission for PTL.
