Electrohysterography may be integral to remifentanil labor analgesia.
Electrohysterography can give the obstetric anesthesiologists a promising parameter to synchronize labor pain relief with remifentanil when patients do not want or cannot have labor epidurals due to their preferences against epidurals or anatomical difficulties in epidural placements.

Obstetrical Hysterectomy, cesarean delivery and abnormal placentation.
To examine the incidence, risk factors, and complications associated with Obstetrical Hysterectomy at a single University Hospital. ⋯ CD in the current pregnancy and history of CD were strong risk factors for Obstetrical Hysterectomy. There was also a high occurrence of Obstetrical Hysterectomy in patients who had abnormal placentation. This information should be used to counsel women regarding the increased risk of remote complications of CD while discussing the route of delivery.

Effect of multiple INSURE procedures in extremely preterm infants.
Our aim was to evaluate whether single and multiple intubation-surfactant-extubation (INSURE) procedures have similar effects on the need of mechanical ventilation (MV) and occurrence of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in extremely preterm infants. ⋯ Single and multiple INSURE procedures were followed by similar respiratory outcome in a cohort of extremely preterm infants. Further studies are warranted to evaluate whether the multiple INSURE strategy enhances the success rate of INSURE in preventing the need of MV and the occurrence of BPD.

Fetal endothelium dysfunction is associated with circulating maternal levels of sE-selectin, sVCAM1, and sFlt-1 during pre-eclampsia.
To evaluate the association between endothelial activation markers in the maternal circulation with nitric oxide (NO) synthesis in human umbilical endothelial cells. ⋯ High circulating levels of maternal endothelial dysfunction markers present in pre-eclampsia are associated with decreased NO synthesis in fetal endothelium.

The effect of cesarean delivery rates on the future incidence of placenta previa, placenta accreta, and maternal mortality.
The overall annual incidence rate of caesarean delivery in the United States has been steadily rising since 1996, reaching 32.9% in 2009. Primary cesareans often lead to repeat cesareans, which may lead to placenta previa and placenta accreta. This study's goal was to forecast the effect of rising primary and secondary cesarean rates on annual incidence of placenta previa, placenta accreta, and maternal mortality. ⋯ If cesarean rates continue to increase, the annual incidence of placenta previa, placenta accreta, and maternal death will also rise substantially.
