Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Safety and efficacy of minimally invasive surgery plus alteplase in intracerebral haemorrhage evacuation (MISTIE): a randomised, controlled, open-label, phase 2 trial.
Craniotomy, according to the results from trials, does not improve functional outcome after intracerebral haemorrhage. Whether minimally invasive catheter evacuation followed by thrombolysis for clot removal is safe and can achieve a good functional outcome is not known. We investigated the safety and efficacy of alteplase, a recombinant tissue plasminogen activator, in combination with minimally invasive surgery (MIS) in patients with intracerebral haemorrhage. ⋯ National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, Genentech, and Codman.

Leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2) mutation 6055G→A (Gly2019Ser) accounts for roughly 1% of patients with Parkinson's disease in white populations, 13-30% in Ashkenazi Jewish populations, and 30-40% in North African Arab-Berber populations, although age of onset is variable. Some carriers have early-onset parkinsonism, whereas others remain asymptomatic despite advanced age. We aimed to use a genome-wide approach to identify genetic variability that directly affects LRRK2 Gly2019Ser penetrance. ⋯ The Canada Excellence Research Chairs (CERC), Leading Edge Endowment Fund (LEEF), Don Rix BC Leadership Chair in Genetic Medicine, National Institute on Aging, National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, the Michael J Fox Foundation, Mayo Foundation, the Roger de Spoelberch Foundation, and GlaxoSmithKline.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Early diaphragm pacing in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (RespiStimALS): a randomised controlled triple-blind trial.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disorder associated with respiratory muscle weakness and respiratory failure. Non-invasive ventilation alleviates respiratory symptoms and prolongs life, but is a palliative intervention. Slowing the deterioration of diaphragm function before respiratory failure would be desirable. We aimed to assess whether early diaphragm pacing could slow down diaphragm deterioration and would therefore delay the need for non-invasive ventilation. ⋯ Hospital Program for Clinical Research, French Ministry of Health; French Patients' Association for ALS Research (Association pour la Recherche sur la Sclérose Latérale Amyotrophique); and Thierry de Latran Foundation.
