Digital libraries are typically used for retrieving and accessing articles in academic journals and repositories. Previous studies have been published about the performance of various biomedical research platforms, but no information is available about access preferences. ⋯ This survey provides useful indications about the personal inclination towards access to scientific information in our country.

The goal of the Choosing Wisely campaign launched in 2009 by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Foundation is to promote dialog on avoiding wasteful or unnecessary medical tests, treatments and procedures. Originating in 2009, the Choosing Wisely initiative involved three primary care specialties in a project aiming to develop "Top Five" lists, which were to be "specialty-specific enumerations of achievable practice changes to improve patient health through better treatment choices, reduced risks and reduced costs. The initiative soon became global, many specialty societies outside the US joining. Some time later, however, data collected demonstrated that a reduction had been achieved only for a few low-value tests and procedures, thus highlighting the need for a more evidence-based approach for identifying low-value practices and for evaluating the efficacy of this initiative over time.

Many diagnostic errors are caused by premature closure of the diagnostic process. To help prevent premature closure, we developed checklists that prompt physicians to consider all reasonable diagnoses for symptoms that commonly present in primary care. ⋯ Checklists did not improve the diagnostic error rate in this study. However further development and testing of checklists in larger studies may be warranted.

Identification of errors in anatomic pathology is an important issue in medical practice. The main objective of this study was to determine the prevalence and characterize preanalytic errors in surgical pathology and cytology samples. We also intended to explore associations between error prevalence and procedures implemented in hospitals concerning the type of requisition forms, use of guidelines for case acceptance and existence of error notification system. ⋯ The existence of written norms for sample acceptance and error reporting systems to submitting services and patient safety department were proven to be associated to lower error prevalence.

Debiasing education has been recommended for physicians in training. We report on the efficacy of a workshop designed to aid family medicine residents recognize and respond to their risk of misdiagnosis due to cognitive biases during patient care. ⋯ A debiasing workshop for family medicine residents demonstrated improvement in one of four studied outcomes.
