Clinical outcomes of discectomy in octogenarian patients with lumbar disc herniation.
A retrospective clinical study. ⋯ Discectomy through hemilaminectomy is a feasible, safe, and effective treatment procedure in octogenarian patients with lumbar disc herniation. Disc resection in octogenarian patients usually gives good or excellent results. Careful examination of the surgical indications and attentive perioperative management should be considered for this patient population.

Comparative StudyComparative analysis of 3 different construct systems for single-level anterior cervical discectomy and fusion: stand-alone cage, iliac graft plus plate augmentation, and cage plus plating.
A retrospective cohort-nested longitudinal study. ⋯ The trend of excellent radiologic outcome was observed for IP≥CP>CA. Plating may play a key role in the support of anterior height. As a result, plating prevents segmental kyphosis and subsidence and promotes bone fusion. Although the overall clinical outcomes were not different among the 3 groups, except for arm pain, more favorable trends regarding clinical outcome were observed for CP≥IP>CA.

Comparative StudyPolyetheretherketone interbody cages versus autogenous iliac crest bone grafts with anterior fixation for cervical disc disease.
The aim of this study was to compare the fusion rate, operation time, recovery of disc space height, clinical duration and improvement, return to activities of daily living, and complication rate associated with anterior cervical discectomy with interbody fusion by using polyetheretherketone cages or autogenous iliac crest bone grafts as disc replacement in a series of 60 patients. ⋯ Although outcomes were very successful in both groups in terms of fixation stability, recovery of disc space, return to activities of daily living and work, and remission of symptoms, operation time was considerably shorter for patients in the polyetheretherketone group, who had none of the complications associated with iliac crest bone graft harvesting, both differences being statistically significant.

Subsidence of polyetheretherketone cage after minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion.
A retrospective case series. ⋯ The rate of PEEK cage subsidence after MITLIF was relatively low. End-plate manipulation and cage insertion during MITLIF were not influenced by a small operation window.

Short fusion strategy for Lenke type 1 thoracic curve using pedicle screw fixation.
A retrospective case-control study ⋯ The short fusion strategy for a Lenke type 1 curve can produce equivalent correction of the main curve and clinical outcomes to conventional fusion strategy with less surgical time and blood loss, while maintaining better shoulder balance.
