Case Reports[Neuromyelitis optica--an important differential diagnosis for multiple sclerosis].
Neuromyelitis optica (Devic's disease) is a rare autoimmune neuroinflammatory disease. The disease can often be difficult to distinguish from multiple sclerosis. ⋯ We describe a 15-year-old woman with onset of a typical relapsing-remitting course. The case includes the diagnostic tests and effected treatment.

The thrombotic microangiopathic diseases, which include acquired and congenital TTP and HUS, are most frequently acute disease entities. Untreated, these diseases are associated with a lethal course in many cases. Deficiency of the von Willebrand cleaving enzyme, ADAMTS13, is a decisive pathophysiological defect in most cases of thrombotic microangiopathic diseases. Early recognition and a secure distinction from other conditions that resemble TMA diseases is essential in order to institute adequate treatment and to obtain a favourable outcome in terms of both survival and development of serious sequelae.

Intensive care unit (ICU)-delirium is defined by an acute, fluctuating course. Hallucinations and anxiety are frequent. This patient group experiences increased morbidity and mortality. The incidence of ICU-delirium is reported to range from 16% to 87% in international studies, but until now the incidence in Denmark has remained unknown. Many studies focus on the risk in elderly patients. The aim of this study was to elucidate the incidence of ICU-delirium in Denmark and to describe relations to medication and age. ⋯ ICU-delirium is common and occurred in all age groups in the present study.

[Preoperative delay in patients with peptic ulcer perforation: a clinical audit from the Danish National Indicator Project].
Mortality following perforated peptic ulcer in Denmark is nearly 30%. Delayed surgery is a prognostic factor, but only half of the patients are operated within six hours of perforation - a predefined quality of care criterion in The Danish National Indicator Project. A clinical audit was conducted to investigate possible reasons. ⋯ Although of limited size, this audit suggests that long preoperative delay in patients with peptic ulcer perforation is associated with factors related to both the internal organisation of the healthcare system, the patient's pathological picture, and the quality of diagnosis and treatment given.

[Peer-led training in basic life support and resuscitation using an automatic external defibrillator].
Peer-led training has been identified as a useful tool for delivering undergraduate healthcare training. In this paper we describe the implementation of the European Resuscitation Council BLS/AED Course as a peer-led training program for medical students.
