Review[Development and treatment of delirium in critically ill children].
Delirium is a common and often under-recognised neuropsychiatric disorder in paediatric critical care, secondary to a general medical condition. Paediatric delirium (PD) is associated with high morbidity and mortality and prolonged stay at the intensive care unit. ⋯ The literature about PD is sparse. In order to make recommendations about PD based on evidence more clinical studies are urgently needed.

Case Reports[Capnocytophaga canimorsus meningitis diagnosed by means of a 16S rRNA analysis].
Capnocytophaga canimorsus is a gram-negative bacterial species hosted in the oral cavity of dogs. C. canimorsus can cause sepsis, meningitis and endocarditis. ⋯ Patients with a history of alcoholism, splenectomy or immunodeficiency are at an increased risk of contracting serious infections with C. canimorsus following dog bites. We report a case story of C. canimorsus meningitis contracted after a dog bite.

[Blood test results are available sooner if Point of Care testing is established in an emergency room].
To determine patient priority and degree of urgency with an objective high-quality evaluation, general Point of Care testing (POCT) was established as a novel facility in the emergency department at Holbæk Hospital, a laboratory that provides faster results for common lab tests. When evaluating response time from arrival of the patient to the time at which the test results are available, POCT is not a significantly better test method than ordinary test methods. This indicates that in order to benefit from POCT the time before taking blood samples should be reduced to a minimum. Overcrowding needs to be controlled in order to accomplish this.

[Optical and video-assisted laryngoscopy in difficult paediatric airways].
Despite ongoing technological advances, direct laryngoscopy still remains the golden standard for endotracheal intubation in children and infants. However, in some infants it is almost impossible to obtain a view of glottis and the vocal cords. In this paper we present an overview of the recent advances in optical and video-assisted laryngoscopy in difficult paediatric airways.

Review[The effect of zinc therapy on common cold--a survey of a Cochrane review].
The Cochrane review "Zinc and the common cold" included 15 randomized controlled double-blind trials. It was concluded, that zinc would shorten the duration of the episode of common cold and also could be used as a prevention so that the risk of developing an episode of common cold would be decreased. It is too early to give general recommendations for the use of zinc as we do not have sufficient knowledge about the optimal dose, formulation and duration of treatment. Further research should focus on the effect of zinc in patients who are at increased risk of developing complications after common cold.
