Review[Lung ultrasound for the diagnosis and follow-up of pneumonia].
Fast and accurate diagnostic of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is of vital importance. Chest X-ray is currently the most used image modality for the diagnosis of CAP. ⋯ LUS is better at detecting and diagnosing complications to CAP. This narrative review gives an update on the literature and describes a practical approach to the use of LUS for the diagnosis and follow-up of CAP.

The role of physicians' shift work in adverse events causing patient harm is not clear. However, extended shifts reduce psychomotor performance and cognition in daytime after a 24-hour shift. The incidence and preventability of adverse events in Denmark are comparable to other Western countries, despite the fact that Danish physicians do not work extended hours. The role of physicians' shift work in adverse events causing patient harm remains controversial and further research is needed.

Review[Stress and burnout increase among general practitioners in Denmark].
Burnout is characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and reduced personal accomplishment. In agreement with international studies, Danish figures have revealed an increase in prevalence of severe burnout from 2.8% in 2004 to 5.3% in 2012. There is only little research on the consequences for the burned-out general practitioner (GP) and his patients as well as on appropriate intervention strategies. Even though burnout appears to be caused by a combination of personality factors and environmental conditions, the literature has one-sidedly focused on the resilience of the individual GP.

[Implementation of the Danish national database Danespine for spinal surgery].
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the response rate at one year follow-up in Danespine (DS) and the outcome after spine surgery. Medical charts were compared to the number of patients in DS. Outcome was measured in pain reduction for legs/back and the improvement in EuroQol (EQ-5D) score. 99.5% of the patients were registered in DS at the time of surgery, 83.7% at one year follow-up. ⋯ The patients' EQ-5D score improved from 0.33 to 0.62. The complication rate was 12.7%. We have implemented DS in order to evaluate the patient satisfaction after surgery, and the patients' benefit from spine surgery.

Case Reports[Tropical sprue as a differential diagnosis to coeliac disease in a patient on immunosuppressive medication].
A Danish woman who was on immunosuppressive medication due to a previous liver transplantation travelled to Indonesia for three weeks. After returning she developed nonfebrile severe, watery diarrhoea, dehydration and malnutrition. A thorough examination revealed small intestine changes, which were compatible with coeliac disease. ⋯ Treatment for tropical sprue was initiated, resulting in complete remission. Tropical sprue is suggested to be an infectious disease. It is usually seen in people with prolonged stay in tropical areas, but this patient's medication may have predisposed her.
