Hypothenar Hammer Syndrome (HHS) is a rare injury. It usually occurs in the dominant hand of middle-aged men whose occupational or recreational activities require the use of the hypothenar of the hand as a hammer. ⋯ Ultrasound duplex and colour scanning revealed an aneurysm with thrombosis of the ulnar artery adjacent to the hook of the hamate. Ligation of the ulnar artery was performed which eliminated the flow in the pseudoaneurysm and prevented further microembolisation to the fingers.

Review[The effect of tobacco smoking on risks in connection in anesthesia and surgery. Development of complications and the preventive effect of smoking cessation].
About one third of the patients presenting for surgery are smokers. Smoking has acute and chronic effects on the cardiovascular, respiratory and immune systems, microcirculatory function and drug metabolism. ⋯ Whether the rate of postoperative complications can be reduced by preoperative smoking cessation is unknown. The preoperative period might be a beneficial time for a greater smoking cessation intervention by an interdisciplinary hospital staff team.

Case Reports[Decompression sickness after diving and following flying].
A case of delayed symptoms of decompression sickness (DCS) after diving and flying is reported. The diver presented with classical signs of type 2 DCS, probably caused by air travel 16 hours after SCUBA diving. Treatment with hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) in a decompression chamber was successful. Guidelines to prevent DCS for recreational divers who plan to fly after diving are presented.
