Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial[Midazolam and lorazepam as premedication. A randomized double-blind study].
Oral administration of midazolam and lorazepam as premedication was compared in a double-blind randomized clinical trial. Eighty patients scheduled for minor gynaecological surgery in general anaesthesia and 80 patients scheduled for hip arthroplasty in spinal anaesthesia were included. ⋯ In the spinal anaesthesia group cognitive function returned more rapidly after midazolam. Midazolam should be preferred for premedication if rapid recovery is desired.

[Prehospital circumstances in cardiac arrest. A prospective study from Slagelse].
The circumstances surrounding the patients with cardiac arrest admitted to a Danish Central Hospital are presented. The study was performed as a prospective study. All patients admitted with cardiac arrest during one year to the Central Hospital in Slagelse were followed. ⋯ We found a clear effect of a sufficient treatment during the transportation on the mortality rate. There was a borderline difference between the survival of the patients if a doctor was present at the scene of accident or during transportation. Treatment given by laymen at the scene of accident, and the transportation time per se did not influence the mortality.

[Increased risk of preterm delivery in women with earlier conization].
The object of the study was to determine the relation between cervical conization and preterm birth. All Danish women with singleton pregnancies who gave birth to their first infant in 1982 and second infant in 1982-1987 were included in a register-based cohort study. Information on pregnancy outcome and cervical conization in 1977-1987 was obtained from the Medical Birth Register and the National Register of Hospital Discharges. ⋯ However, the risk of preterm birth was higher in women with previous than with subsequent cervical conization. It is concluded that cervical conization is correlated with preterm birth. Since women with subsequent cervical conization are at increased risk of preterm birth in preceding pregnancies, other factors than the surgical intervention may contribute to the significantly increased risk of preterm birth.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial[Inguinal funicular block in vasectomy].
The analgesic efficacy of inguinal funicular block with 10 ml carbocaine 1% as a supplement to local infiltration analgesia of the vas deferens was investigated in patients undergoing vasectomy. Pain/discomfort during vasectomy and on the first and third day postoperatively were investigated using a questionnaire. ⋯ There was significantly less intraoperative pain on the side of the active inguinal funicular block (p < 0.0001), but no significant differences were found at the first and third postoperative day (p = 1.16-1.19). Inguinal funicular block can be recommended as a supplement to the usual use of local infiltration analgesia of the vas deferens.
