[Fiber bronchoscopy and bronchoalveolar lavage in patients with asthma. A description of the method].
Fiber bronchoscopy under local anaesthesia is an examination procedure frequently employed in the remainder of Scandinavia, Europe and USA. It requires only few resources and the costs are considerably less than fiber bronchoscopy under general anaesthesia. Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) in connection with fiber bronchoscopy is rapidly undertaken but analysis of the material obtained requires considerable time. ⋯ The examination is only associated with slight discomfort for the patients, who will frequently accept repeated investigations, and complications are rare. BAL is a valuable examination procedure in research and the results have increased the knowledge of mechanisms in a series of interstitial pulmonary diseases. Future investigations of the humoral and cellular components in BAL fluid in asthmatic patients will contribute to increase knowledge of the pathological mechanisms in asthmatic disease.

The late results of 16 tarsometatarsal fracture-dislocations are presented. The median period of observation was 9.5 years. Closed or operative reduction of the dislocations was performed and, in 11 cases, internal fixation with Kirschner wires was employed. ⋯ The results were good in nine out of 12 cases with normal positions in the tarsometatarsal joints. None of the patients with persistent dislocation in the joint had good results. Exact closed reduction or operative reduction with internal fixation with Kirschner wire are recommended in the treatment of tarsometatarsal fracture-dislocations.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial[Discontinuing postoperative wound dressings].
The influence of postoperative dressings on wound healing was investigated. Clean and potentially contaminated operation wounds were subdivided at random into a group with dressings until the sutures were removed or a group with dressings during the first 24 hours after operation only. No significant differences in the incidences of wound infections were observed in the two groups. The majority of the patients treated with dressings for a brief period only did not desire prolonged periods with dressings after possible future operations.

[Festival injuries. Injury patterns at the Midtfyn Music Festival in 1988].
A first-aid station was established at the Midtfyn Music Festival in 1988. A total of 174 patients were treated. The diseases and casualties are described according to numbers, distribution, course and causes. ⋯ Treatment could be completed in approximately 60% of the cases. Most of the casualties were caused by broken glass, deliberate violence or failure to comply with maintenance medication. Various suggestions are made to reduce the number of casualties.

[Autologous epidural blood patch and post-lumbar puncture headache. A review of a 1-year period at a central hospital].
During a period of one year in which 609 spinal anaesthetics were performed, seven men and eight women complained of post lumbar puncture headache (PLPH). This form of headache was most frequently localized to the forehead and neck. The maximal intensities of the PLPH were assessed as "7-8" on a 10 cm visual analogous scale. ⋯ Relapse occurred in one patient. No significant adverse effects were observed. AEBP is thus considered as a safe and effective form of treatment of PLPH.
