Historical Article[Fewer indications for sedation in mechanical ventilation therapy].
Critically ill patients undergoing mechanical ventilation have traditionally been deeply sedated. In the latest decade growing evidence supports less sedation as being beneficial for the patients. A daily interruption of sedation has been shown to reduce the length of mechanical ventilation and the length of stay in the intensive care unit. Recently it has been shown that a strategy with no sedation of critically ill patients undergoing mechanical ventilation reduced the time patients received mechanical ventilation and reduced the length of both intensive care and hospital stay.

Case Reports[Atypical cause of scapular winging due to exostosis of the scapula].
The most common cause of winging of the scapula is paralysis of the anterior serratus muscle, predominantly because of damage to the long thoracicus nerve. We present a case with a 12 year-old boy, who experienced increasing winging of the scapula over the latest four years. ⋯ The condition was caused by an osteochondroma on the ventral side of the scapula. We discuss the different causes of winging of the scapula.

Review[Development and treatment of delirium in critically ill children].
Delirium is a common and often under-recognised neuropsychiatric disorder in paediatric critical care, secondary to a general medical condition. Paediatric delirium (PD) is associated with high morbidity and mortality and prolonged stay at the intensive care unit. ⋯ The literature about PD is sparse. In order to make recommendations about PD based on evidence more clinical studies are urgently needed.

Case Reports[Capnocytophaga canimorsus meningitis diagnosed by means of a 16S rRNA analysis].
Capnocytophaga canimorsus is a gram-negative bacterial species hosted in the oral cavity of dogs. C. canimorsus can cause sepsis, meningitis and endocarditis. ⋯ Patients with a history of alcoholism, splenectomy or immunodeficiency are at an increased risk of contracting serious infections with C. canimorsus following dog bites. We report a case story of C. canimorsus meningitis contracted after a dog bite.
