[Insufficient preoperative anaesthesiological assessment of dental status].
We conducted a comparison of the preoperative airway and teeth status assessment with a dedicated postoperative assessment. We included 211 patients with a preoperative airway and teeth assessment performed by the designated physicians at the department of anaesthesia. 27% of the patients had an incomplete preoperative assessment. 66% were not informed about the risk of damages to the teeth and 16% of the patients were postoperatively considered to have periodontitis compared to only 3% preoperatively. Postoperatively we found, that many more patients had an overall poor dental status.

Case Reports[Chronic subdural haematoma in a patient with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura].
Chronic subdural haematoma (cSDH) is a rare form of bleeding in patients with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP). In patients with ITP cSDHs may resolve spontaneously or with medical treatment. Surgery can be postponed if the patient does not have neurological symptoms. Medical treatment and close observation may be appropriate in the management of patients without neurological findings, because surgery might be complicated with intracranial bleeding.

Review[Reduced synthesis of coenzyme Q10 may cause statin related myopathy].
Statin treatment can cause muscular side effects. It has been suggested that the mechanism is reduced synthesis of coenzyme Q10 (coQ10) and a subsequent dysfunction of the respiratory chain. ⋯ It is uncertain whether intramuscular levels of coQ10 and mitochondrial function are affected by statin therapy and whether the symptoms of myopathy can be alleviated with coQ10 supplementation. Nevertheless, due to a favourable safety profile, coQ10 can be tested in patients whose muscular symptoms cannot be managed otherwise.

The growth promoter story in the 1990 s increased the focus on antibiotic misuse and related resistance. A Danish EU conference, The Microbial Threat, in 1998 resulted in The Copenhagen Recommendations, on the basic principles for a policy to contain resistance, which was transformed into EU recommendations in 2001. Following this a range of programs on monitoring of resistance and consumption, research, national campaigns etc. has been accomplished. The US, Canada and Australia have also upgraded their efforts in this area, while the WHO lacks resources to approach the countries in the rest of the world, in which these problems are the worst.
