Case Reports[Circulatory collapse in bodybuilder during anaesthesia].
The use of anabolic steroids is a growing problem in Denmark. The effects and side effects caused by anabolic steroids in relation to anaesthesia are poorly described. This article describes a case of circulatory collapse in a young bodybuilder during anaesthesia. The primary cause of the collapse remains undetermined, but different hypotheses are proposed based on previously published literature.

[Wernicke's encephalopathy in patients with alcohol withdrawal symptoms].
Wernicke's encephalopathy (WE) is caused by lack of thiamin. In Denmark, WE most often occurs in alcoholics. In the present study, we wanted to investigate the frequency of WE in patients hospitalized for treatment of alcohol withdrawal symptoms in a psychiatric emergency ward. ⋯ WE is a frequently occurring condition among patients treated for alcohol withdrawal symptoms in psychiatric wards. A possible pathogenetic factor is the alcohol withdrawal reaction, as cerebral hyperactivity may lead to increased thiamin consumption and thus depletion of the depots. To avoid insufficient treatment, routine administration of large doses of intravenous thiamine to all patients admitted with alcohol withdrawal symptoms should be considered.

Laryngomalacia is the most common laryngeal anomaly which causes inspiratory stridor in newborns. The disease is usually self-limiting and resolves before the age of two years. ⋯ The patient was observed at the hospital for one week after surgery and discharged. Four weeks after treatment, the patient was free of airway obstruction and feeding problems.

Traumatic abdominal wall hernias are rare. We describe a case of a handlebar hernia which was initially misinterpreted as a rectus haematoma, and consequently the patient was discharged without any treatment. The patient was admitted two days after with severe pain and computed tomography showed a defect in the abdominal wall. The patient underwent laparoscopic hernial repair with a Goretex mesh after some weeks when the primary tissue damage had subsided.

Case Reports[Failed intubation and subsequent airway management during Caesarean section in general anaesthesia].
There is an increased risk of intubation failure and aspiration when performing Caesarean section (CS) in general anaesthesia. We describe an incidence of failed intubation and airway management of a CS patient at Herlev Hospital in 2007. ⋯ There was no local failed intubation drill guideline, but a national algorithm was partially followed. Any hospital performing obstetric operations should frequently perform a failed intubation drill.
