Comparative Study Controlled Clinical TrialValue of 111In-DOTA-lanreotide and 111In-DOTA-DPhe1-Tyr3-octreotide in differentiated thyroid cancer: results of in vitro binding studies and in vivo comparison with 18F-FDG PET.
Radioiodine-negative thyroid cancer presents diagnostic and therapeutic difficulties, warranting the implementation of new imaging and treatment strategies. The purpose of this study was twofold. First, we investigated in vitro the binding characteristics of 111In-DOTA-lanreotide (111In-DOTA-LAN) and 111In-DOTA-D: Phe1-Tyr3-octreotide (111In-DOTA-TOC) to cells derived from differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC). Second, we evaluated the value of somatostatin receptor (SSTR) scintigraphy with these radioligands, as compared with 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET), for the detection of tumour lesions in DTC patients. ⋯ Adding a SSTR scan with these radioligands to the diagnostic work-up increases the diagnostic capacity in DTC, and should be considered particularly in radioiodine-negative patients with elevated thyroglobulin levels.

Controlled Clinical TrialProgression of dopaminergic degeneration in dementia with Lewy bodies and Parkinson's disease with and without dementia assessed using 123I-FP-CIT SPECT.
The objective of this study was to investigate the rate of progression of nigrostriatal dopaminergic loss in subjects with dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), Parkinson's disease (PD) and PD with dementia (PDD) using serial 123I-FP-CIT SPECT imaging. We hypothesised that striatal rates of decline in patients would be greater than in controls, and that DLB and PDD would show similar rates, reflecting the similarity in neurobiological mechanisms of dopaminergic loss between the two disorders. ⋯ In conclusion, this is the first study to show that significant progressive dopaminergic loss occurs in DLB and PDD using serial 123I-FP-CIT SPECT. Dementia severity and motor impairment were correlated with decline, suggesting that dopaminergic loss may play an important role in cognitive as well as motor features.

Clinical TrialRadioimmunotherapy using 131I-rituximab in patients with advanced stage B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma: initial experience.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety, toxicity and therapeutic response of non-myeloablative radioimmunotherapy using 131I-rituximab in previously heavily treated patients with B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (B-NHL). ⋯ Radioimmunotherapy with 131I-rituximab in previously heavily treated B-NHL patients was safe and well tolerated, and four out of ten therapies induced responses. Radioimmunotherapy was less efficient in patients with bulky disease and elevated LDH. Severe haematological toxicity in seven patients did not cause significant clinical problems. Radioimmunotherapy seems to be an additional therapeutic option in carefully selected therapy-refractory B-NHL patients.
