Invasive infections caused by Neisseria meningitidis are a serious public health problem worldwide and have a heavy economic impact. The incidence of invasive disease due to Neisseria meningitidis is highly variable according to geographical area and serogroup distribution. ⋯ It is important to underline that invasive meningococcal disease will not be controlled until safe and effective vaccines for meningococcal B are available and widely used. The aims of this article are to describe the most recent developments in meningococcal B vaccines and to discuss how these vaccines can contribute to containing meningococcal disease.

This article elucidates current strategies of active immunotherapy for colorectal cancer patients with a focus on T-cell mediated immunotherapy. Poor prognosis of especially stage III and IV colorectal cancer patients emphasizes the need for advanced therapeutic intervention. Here, we refer to clinical trials using either tumor cell-derived vaccines or tumor antigen vaccines with a special interest on safety, induced immune responses, clinical benefit and efforts to improve the clinical impact of these vaccines in the context of colorectal cancer treatment.

ReviewA combination recombinant protein and outer membrane vesicle vaccine against serogroup B meningococcal disease.
Although meningococcal disease caused by serogroup B remains an important public health concern, a licensed vaccine providing broad protection against this pathogen is not yet available. Advances in genomics have paved the way for the discovery of new vaccine candidates for inclusion into a multicomponent serogroup B vaccine. In this article, we will review recent advances in the development of these vaccines, focussing particularly on one of the 'next generation' MenB vaccines, 4CMenB.

ReviewHyporesponsiveness and its clinical implications after vaccination with polysaccharide or glycoconjugate vaccines.
Hyporesponsiveness (immune tolerance) follows vaccination with meningococcal polysaccharide and many pneumococcal polysaccharide serotypes. Hyporesponsiveness after Haemophilus influenzae type b polysaccharide vaccination has not been directly observed, but may follow exposure during disease in some individuals. ⋯ This review of vaccine-induced hyporesponsiveness and its potential clinical implications considers recent evidence suggesting that hyporesponsiveness may occur for specific components of combined conjugate vaccines, such as pneumococcal serotype 3. These data have implications for the development of new multivalent vaccines.
