KRAS Gene Polymorphisms and their Impact on Breast Cancer Risk in an Iranian Population
Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the let-7 miRNA binding site within the 3’ untranslated region (3’UTR) of KRAS appear related to the risk of cancer. The present case-control study was conducted with 244 BC patients and 204 healthy women to examine whether KRAS polymorphisms (rs61764370 T/G and rs712 G/T) are associated with breast cancer (BC) risk in an Iranian population. The polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) method was used for genotyping of KRAS SNPs. ⋯ However, we found no relationship among KRAS SNPs and clinicopathological characteristics of BC patients (P>0.05). Taken together, the present study provided evidence of relationships between KRAS polymorphisms and BC risk in a southeast Iranian population. Additional studies using larger sample sizes and diverse ethnicities are now warranted.

Genetic Association of XRCC1 Gene rs1799782, rs25487 and rs25489 Polymorphisms with Risk of Thyroid Cancer: a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Background: A number of case-control studies have evaluated associations between the X-ray cross complementary group 1 protein (XRCC1) gene rs1799782 (Arg194Trp), rs25487 (Arg399Gln) and rs25489 (Arg280His) polymorphisms and thyroid cancer (TC) risk, but the results remain inconclusive. Materials and Methods: A systematic literature search was performed using PubMed and Google Scholar Search. According to defined criteria data were extracted and pooled odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals were calculated under five genetic models. ⋯ G: OR= 0.882, 95% CI = 0.794-0.979, p= 0.136) and dominant genetic comparison (AA+AG vs. GG: OR=0.838, 95% CI = 0.728-0.965, p= 0.014). Conclusions: The results of our meta-analysis suggest an increased risk of TC with the XRCC1 rs1799782 and rs25487 polymorphisms. However, the XRCC1 rs25489 polymorphism appeared to be without influence.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialEffect of Ginger and Chamomile on Nausea and Vomiting Caused by Chemotherapy in Iranian Women with Breast Cancer.
Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) places a significant burden on the patient. Herbal agents are the most commonly complementary therapies used among the public. This study was done to determine the effect of ginger and chamomile capsules on nausea and vomiting in cases undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer (BC). ⋯ According to the findings of this study, it should be declared that taking ginger capsules (1 g/day) might relieve CINV safely. Nurses dealing directly with cancer patients should be responsible for providing educational programs for patients and their families about how to deal with their drug regimens and associated side effects.

Violation of Bans on Tobacco Advertising and Promotion at Points of Sale in Viet Nam: Trend from 2009 - 2015.
Comprehensive bans on tobacco advertising and promotion were introduced through tobacco control legislation in Viet Nam, but it has been established that violations of the bans are very common. This study was conducted to explore the trend in violations of bans on tobacco advertising and promotion at points of sale in Viet Nam in the past six years and to explore any differences in the violation situations before and after the Law on Tobacco Control came into effect on 1st May 2013. Quantitative data were collected through observation of violations of the bans on tobacco advertising and promotion at points of sale in 10 provinces throughout Viet Nam in four survey rounds (2009, 2010, 2011, and 2015). ⋯ The enforcement of the bans did not improve even after the issuance and the enactment of the Law on Tobacco Control. This suggests that the monitoring and enforcement of bans on tobacco advertising and promotion at points of sale should be strengthened. Penalties should be strictly applied for violators as indicated in the current tobacco control legislation.

Surveillance Evaluation of the National Cancer Registry in Sabah, Malaysia.
Cancer is the fourth leading cause of death in Sabah Malaysia with a reported agestandardized incidence rate was 104.9 per 100,000 in 2007. The incidence rate depends on nonmandatory notification in the registry. Underreporting will provide the false picture of cancer control program effectiveness. The present study was to evaluate the performance of the cancer registry system in terms of representativeness, data quality, simplicity, acceptability and timeliness and provision of recommendations for improvement. ⋯ The performances of registry's attributes are fairly positive in terms of simplicity, case reporting sensitivity, and predictive value positive. It is moderately acceptable, data completeness and inflexible. The usefulness of registry is the area of concern to achieve registry objectives. Timeliness of reporting is within international standard, whereas timeliness to data dissemination was longer up to 4 years. Integration between existing HIS and national registration department will improve data quality.
