Observational StudyDepressive Symptom Prevalence and Predictors in the First Half of Pregnancy.
Major depression during the peripartum (MDP) period carries significant public health impact due to the potential adverse effects on maternal, infant, and family outcomes. ⋯ It is important for clinicians not only to screen for MDP during prenatal visits by asking about current depressive, stress, and anxiety symptoms but also to identify patients at risk for MDP by asking simple questions about history of preconception/lifetime episodes of depression and stressful life events. Given the variance accounted for by lifetime depression, additional research into how clinicians may approach this important topic is warranted. For example, checklists given in the waiting room may be less likely to elicit endorsement compared with conversations aimed to normalize the range of depressive histories that may have relevance to obstetric health.

Controlled Clinical TrialHigh Incidence of Ovarian Cysts in Women Receiving mTOR Inhibitors After Renal Transplantation.
Ovarian cysts are a common finding in reproductive-aged females. Most of them are functional cysts that typically resolve spontaneously and require no treatment. However, ovarian cysts may also be adverse events associated with inhibitors of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR). Both approved mTOR inhibitors everolimus and sirolimus are widely used as immunosuppressive agents after organ transplantation. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of mTOR inhibitors vs. non-mTOR inhibitor immunosuppression on the incidence, size and complication rate of ovarian cysts in renal transplant recipients. ⋯ Future prospective studies are required to determine the underlying cause of ovarian toxicity and treatment strategies have to be developed in order to avoid severe complications.

Patient Navigation Improves Subsequent Breast Cancer Screening After a Noncancerous Result: Evidence from the Patient Navigation in Medically Underserved Areas Study.
Past efforts to assess patient navigation on cancer screening utilization have focused on one-time uptake, which may not be sufficient in the long term. This is partially due to limited resources for in-person, longitudinal patient navigation. We examine the effectiveness of a low-intensity phone- and mail-based navigation on multiple screening episodes with a focus on screening uptake after receiving noncancerous results during a previous screening episode. ⋯ Our findings suggest that low-intensity navigation services can improve follow-up screening among women who receive a noncancerous result. Further investigation is needed to confirm navigation's impacts on longitudinal screening.

Association Between Duration of Reproductive Years and Metabolic Syndrome.
The incidence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) has gradually increased in recent years. MetS has been associated with age at menarche and menopause; however, the association between MetS and the reproductive span remains unclear. ⋯ Longer reproductive years were significantly associated with a decreased prevalence of MetS.

The Prevention of Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (PLUS) Research Consortium: A Transdisciplinary Approach Toward Promoting Bladder Health and Preventing Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms in Women Across the Life Course.
Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) are highly prevalent in women, and are expected to impose a growing burden to individuals and society as the population ages. The predominance of research related to LUTS has focused on underlying pathology, disease mechanisms, or the efficacy of treatments for women with LUTS. ⋯ The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) introduced the concept of prevention as an important priority for women's urologic research as a prelude to supporting the formation of the Prevention of Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (PLUS) research consortium. In this article, we introduce the PLUS research consortium to the scientific community; share the innovative paradigms by which the consortium operates; and describe its unique research mission: to identify factors that promote bladder health across the life course and prevent the onset of LUTS in girls and women.
