Promotion of an Algorithm-Based Tool for Pregnancy Prevention by Instagram Influencers.
Objective: Despite growing concerns that some digital algorithm-reliant fertility awareness-based methods of pregnancy prevention are marketed in an inaccurate, opaque, and potentially harmful manner online, there has been limited systematic examination of such marketing practices. This article therefore provides an empirical examination of how social media influencers have promoted the fertility tracking tool Daysy on Instagram. We investigate: (1) how the tool is framed in relation to pregnancy prevention using Health Belief Model (HBM) constructs, and (2) the promotional and disclosure practices adopted by influencers. ⋯ Findings indicate that barriers to use (n = 18, 15.57%) and the severity of risks from unplanned pregnancy (n = 8, 6.56%) were rarely conveyed, whereas benefits of use (n = 122, 100%) and the severity of risks of hormonal contraception (n = 31, 25.41%) were covered more extensively. Only about one third of posts disclosed any formal relationship to the brand Daysy. Conclusions: With many posts emphasizing benefits and obscuring potential limitations, we argue that accurate and transparent information about the effectiveness and limitations of fertility tracking technologies is critical for supporting informed decision-making and, as such, should remain a public health priority.

Purpose: Research about academic medicine women faculty has focused on comparisons of men and women or specific groups who achieved leadership. To better understand the low percentages of women in academic medicine leadership, attention should be paid to the career continuum within genders. Study findings will inform policies and programs to support women in building careers and acquiring leadership positions. ⋯ It identifies the mid-career stage as a challenging experience for both men and women. Women, especially at the associate professor rank, remain a critically dissatisfied and underresourced group that is at risk for underutilization and potentially exit from academic medicine. All ranks of women need career development and equitable policies to support their sense of belonging and career advancement.

Can I Leave?: Perspectives on Parental Leave and Parenthood in Medical Training Among Program Directors and Trainees in Oncologic Specialties.
Purpose: Peak fertility commonly occurs during medical training, and delaying parenthood can complicate pregnancies. Trainee parental leave policies are varied and lack transparency. Research on the impacts of parenthood on trainee education is limited. ⋯ Trainees' perception of PD support for parenthood is less than PD self-reported support. Alongside significant rates of delayed parenthood and fertility concerns, this poses a problem for trainees seeking to start a family, particularly women who are perceived more negatively. Further work is needed to create a supportive culture for trainee parenthood.

Functional Disabilities and Food Insufficiency During Pregnancy: Results from the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System.
Background: Disability is a well-documented risk factor for food insecurity. However, prior literature has overlooked the possible connection between disability and food insecurity during the antenatal period. This study extends previous research by examining the relationship between those with any functional disabilities and food insufficiency during pregnancy among a sample of mothers. ⋯ Finally, the findings revealed that respondents with two functional disabilities (RR = 1.473, 95% CI = 1.153-1.882) and three or more functional disabilities (RR = 1.974, 95% CI = 1.534-2.541) are significantly more likely to report food insufficiency compared with respondents with no disabilities. Conclusions: There is a significant positive association between reporting functional disabilities and food insufficiency. Expanding current public health programs, educating health care professionals, and implementing effective screening guidelines directed at pregnant women with disabilities may reduce the prevalence of food insufficiency and promote greater health equity.
