Transplantation of umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) has been shown to be effective in treating critical limb ischemia (CLI). However, the mechanism of MSCs-mediated improvements, especially on the immune-inflammatory aspects of this disease, is still unknown. In this study, we investigated the changes in T-lymphocyte subpopulations and inflammatory mediators (such as IL-6, IL-10 and TNF-α) in PBMCs from CLI patients after UC-MSCs treatment and correlation between inflammatory mediators and EPCs. ⋯ This study demonstrates that UC-MSCs have anti-inflammatory and immunomodulation properties in CLI and suggests that UC-MSCs promote healing of non-healing wounds.

Inflammatory neuropathies are a rare and heterogeneous group of diseases of the nervous system characterized by the dysfunction and damage of different structures of the peripheral nerves. This group includes Guillain-Barré syndrome, chronic demyelinating inflammatory polyradiculoneuropathy, multifocal motor neuropathy or neuropathies associated with monoclonal gammopathy. ⋯ For all these reasons, these antibodies are useful in clinical practice. This review focuses on the diagnostic and therapeutic relevance of autoantibodies in inflammatory neuropathies.

The estimation of cardiovascular risk (CVR) with scores at 30 years old has a special interest in reclassifying in a suitable way <60 year subjects with intermediate CVR. This study analyzes what percentage of patients with intermediate CVR included in the MARK study is reclassified by applying the 30-year Framingham score (FS30). It also analyzes the degree of agreement between the two equations to classify high risk subjects. ⋯ In subjects with intermediate CVR the FS30 reclassifies more than the half as high RCV, 2 out of 3 men and 1 out of 3 women.

To assess the usefulness of a risk scale based on serum procalcitonin (PCT) compared to the Laboratory Risk Indicator for Necrotising Fasciitis (LRINEC) scale in the early discrimination between necrotising fasciitis (NF) and cellulitis of the extremities. ⋯ PCT measurement was a more effective method than the LRINEC score for early discrimination between NF and cellulitis of the extremities. A low level of PCT, associated with the patient's clinical status and physical examination is especially useful to rule out an early diagnosis of NF.
