Despite recent successful efforts to reduce the global malaria burden, this disease remains a significant global health problem. Only in 2018, malaria caused 228 million clinical episodes, 2-4 million of which were severe malaria cases, and 405,000 were fatal. Most of the malaria attributable mortality occurred among children in sub-Saharan Africa. ⋯ Understanding this response would help to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic tools. Vector and parasite drug resistance are two major challenges for malaria control that require special attention. The most advanced malaria vaccine (RTS,S) is currently being piloted in 3 African countries.

The impact of an admission to ICU before stem cell transplantation (SCT) on post-SCT outcome is not well established. ⋯ Our results show that admission to the ICU prior to SCT does not have a negative impact on patient outcomes following SCT and should not be considered as an exclusion criterion for SCT.

In the last months great efforts have been developed to evaluate the more efficient therapeutic agents in the management of patients with COVID-19. Currently, no specific drug combination has consistently demonstrated an association with mortality. The aim of this study was to assess the pattern of associations observed between the different in-hospital treatments administered to a series of 238 patients admitted for COVID-19 and their relationship with mortality. ⋯ The observed association patterns are consistent with previous literature. It seems necessary to design randomized controlled clinical trials that evaluate the possible protector effect of tocilizumab and corticoids in the risk of mortality for some subgroups of COVID-19 hospitalized patients.

Case Reports Observational Study
Prevalence of late diagnosis of HIV infection.
Prevalence of late diagnosis (LD) and identifying missed opportunities. ⋯ In spite of multiple contacts with our health system, almost half of the new cases of HIV infection are diagnosticated late. Different strategies should be implemented to improve the identification of the risk factors and clinical indicators of possible HIV infection.
