Acute hepatic porphyria (AHP) comprises a group of rare genetic diseases characterized by neurovisceral crises that are manifested by abdominal pain and neurological and/or psychological symptoms that interfere with the ability to lead a normal life. Our objective was to determine the burden of the disease in one year and the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in patients with AHP. ⋯ Patients with AHP are associated with a high economic impact and an affected HRQoL in the pain/discomfort dimension, with a negative impact on the performance of daily activities and a risk of psychiatric diseases.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is associated with obesity. Weight loss is frequently reflected in an amelioration in the severity of the lesions. Case reports have suggested that liraglutide might improve not only weight but also skin. We aimed to study the effects of liraglutide 3mg in patients with obesity and HS on metabolic and dermatological parameters. ⋯ Liraglutide 3mg is effective and safe among patients with HS and obesity. Long-term studies are mandatory to assess the effects of liraglutide on skin lesions and inflammatory markers among subjects with HS beyond weight loss.

Chronic thrombo-embolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is a potentially curable form of pulmonary hypertension (PH) that develops in up to 3% of patients after pulmonary embolism (PE). In these patients, PE does not resolve, leading to organized fibrotic clots, with the development of precapillary PH as a result of the proximal obstruction of the pulmonary arteries. In addition, a distal microvasculopathy may also develop, contributing to the increase of pulmonary vascular resistance. ⋯ Balloon pulmonary angioplasty is an endovascular technique that targets more distal lesions, being potentially useful for patients with inoperable CTEPH or persistent/recurrent PH post-endarterectomy. Both types of patients may also benefit from pharmacological treatment for PH. These three therapies are the cornerstone of CTEPH treatment, which has evolved towards a multimodal approach.
