Multicenter Study Comparative Study
Comparison between PROFUND and PALIAR indexes in polypathological patients with advanced non-oncologic chronic diseases.
To compare the discrimination power of PROFUND and PALIAR indexes for predicting mortality in polypathological patients with advanced non-oncologic chronic disease. ⋯ In polypathological patients with advanced non-oncologic chronic disease, the PALIAR index had better discrimination power than PROFUND index at 66 months and there were no differences at 12 months.

The increase in international travel, the growing presence of arbovirus vectors in our country, and notifications of haemorrhagic fever such as the current outbreak of Ebola in D. R. ⋯ Assessing the patient, taking a careful medical history based on epidemiological aspects of the area of origin, activities they have carried out, their length of stay in the area and the onset of symptoms, will eventually help us, if not to make a definitive diagnosis, at least to exclude diseases that pose a threat to these patients. Malaria should be ruled out because of its frequency, without forgetting other common causes of fever familiar to emergency doctors.

Recent studies have shown that the C-reactive protein-to-albumin ratio (CAR) can predict the mortality in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The aim of the present study was to investigate the utility of preoperative CAR for predicting postoperative overall and tumor free survival among HCC patients after radical surgery. ⋯ Preoperative CRP/Alb ratio is an independent prognostic marker with tumor free survival in patients with HCC after curative resection and the prognostic ability was comparable to other applied inflammation-based prognostic scores in both overall and tumor-free survival, especially at the early stage.
