Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
[Analgesia when taking heel-lance blood in the newborn].
To evaluate the pain in healthy newborns requiring blood test by a heel-prick procedure and compare different pain management methods. ⋯ The blood test by heel lance represents a painful procedure of moderate intensity capable of analgesic treatment. A proper nursing method, along with a complement of non-nutritive sucking during extraction, significantly decreases the discomfort and crying, it being unnecessary to consider other analgesics.

We developed a study to investigate how end-of-life care is delivered in our PICU. It was based on questionnaires. Questionnaires are incomplete tools to study perceptions. Knowing this, information was completed by interviewing some parents. ⋯ It is possible to obtain information about end-of-life care by asking parents. Content analysis provides us with useful knowledge to face child death and improve care. The main areas to improve are related with family-centered care.

Nosocomial infection represents a problem of public health given his high morbidity and mortality, and the cost that it causes to the sanitary system. ⋯ Nosocomial infection represents an important problem in PICU. These data allow us the knowledge of the incidence of nosocomial infection in our PICU and target the strategies for reducing morbidity and mortality.

The objective of the present study is to present the organization of the resources of paediatric cardiac critical care in Spain. ⋯ Paediatric cardiac critical care involves a significant use of resources, including PICUs with no surgical activity. This study is useful for detecting common problems and for improving clinical care.
