A needful, unique, and in-place evaluation of the injuries in earthquake victims with computed tomography, in catastrophic disasters! The 2023 Turkey-Syria earthquakes: part I.
This study was carried out to evaluate the injuries in pediatric earthquake victims due to the 2023 Turkey-Syria earthquakes with computed tomography and determine the anatomotopographic distribution of injuries. ⋯ The head injury was the most common earthquake-related injury in pediatric cases. Herein, it was more common in younger children compared with other age groups, whereas rib, spine, and pleural injuries were more common in older children.

Evaluation of the relationship between monocyte to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio and thrombus burden in patients with deep vein thrombosis.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate monocyte count and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and their ratio (monocyte/high-density lipoprotein ratio) in patients with deep venous thrombosis as well as to determine whether this ratio at the time of diagnosis can be an indicator of thrombus burden in terms of thrombus location in deep venous thrombosis. ⋯ Monocyte/high-density lipoprotein ratio is significantly elevated in patients with deep venous thrombosis when compared to the control group. Monocyte/high-density lipoprotein ratio levels were correlated with disease burden reflected by thrombus location and the number of vein segments involved in deep venous thrombosis patients.

Reduced mobility is associated with adverse outcomes after in-hospital cardiac arrest.
In-hospital cardiac arrest is a critical medical emergency. Knowledge of prognostic factors could assist in cardiopulmonary resuscitation decision-making. Frailty and functional status are emerging risk factors and may play a role in prognostication. The objective was to evaluate the association between reduced mobility and in-hospital cardiac arrest outcomes. ⋯ In patients with in-hospital cardiac arrest, reduced mobility is associated with no return of spontaneous circulation. However, there is no relation to in-hospital mortality.

Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease is an inherited kidney disorder with mutations in polycystin-1 or polycystin-2. Autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease is a severe form of polycystic kidney disease that is characterized by enlarged kidneys and congenital hepatic fibrosis. Mutations at PKHD1 are responsible for all typical forms of autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease. ⋯ Our results highlighted molecular features of Turkish children with polycystic kidney disease and demonstrated novel variations that can be utilized in clinical diagnosis and prognosis.
