Increased risk of bladder cancer recurrence due to bacillus Calmette-Guérin shortage in Brazil.
Our study aimed to evaluate the impact of bacillus Calmette-Guérin shortage on recurrence and progression in patients with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer in a Brazilian cohort. ⋯ Our study confirms that non-muscle invasive bladder cancer exhibits a high recurrence rate. The use of adjuvant bacillus Calmette-Guérin in intermediate and high-risk patients significantly reduces this rate. Furthermore, the bacillus Calmette-Guérin shortage could have negatively impacted these patients.

Influencing factors of intrapartum fever after epidural labor analgesia.
The objective of this study was to investigate factors influencing intrapartum fever in parturients receiving epidural labor analgesia. ⋯ Timing of analgesia and amniotic fluid contamination are significant factors influencing intrapartum fever in parturients receiving epidural labor analgesia.

Preoperative cancer antigen-125 levels as a predictor of recurrence in early-stage endometrial cancer.
Endometrial cancer is the most common gynecological cancer in developed countries, with a majority of cases being low-grade endometrioid endometrial cancer. Identifying risk factors for disease recurrence and poor prognosis is critical. This study aimed to assess the correlation between preoperative cancer antigen-125 levels and disease recurrence in early-stage endometrioid endometrial cancer patients. ⋯ The findings of this study suggest that preoperative cancer antigen-125 levels can be used as a predictor of disease recurrence in early-stage endometrioid endometrial cancer patients. cancer antigen-125 levels may be a useful tool for risk stratification and patient management in endometrial cancer.

Independent predictors for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in patients with treatment-naïve chronic hepatitis B.
There are limited data on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in chronic hepatitis B virus infection. We aimed to determine the predictors for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in patients with treatment-naïve chronic hepatitis B virus infection. ⋯ Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease was observed in about one-third of patients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection and was positively associated with older age, higher body mass index, presence of comorbid conditions including diabetes mellitus, increased levels of metabolic laboratory parameters, especially serum triglyceride and LDL, and decreased HDL.

Updated threshold, renewed problems: should the diagnostic criteria of polycythemia vera be reconsidered? A retrospective cross-sectional cohort study.
This aim of this study was to evaluate hemoglobin and hematocrit values of polycythemia vera and secondary polycythemia patients with updated World Health Organization thresholds. In addition, by determining our own threshold values, we aimed to demonstrate the necessity of bone marrow biopsy and genetic analysis to be used for further diagnosis in patients with high-normal hematocrit and hemoglobin values. ⋯ Our study demonstrated that modified World Health Organization criteria might lead to unnecessary additional tests for polycythemia vera patients with high-normal hemoglobin and hematocrit values.
